Fox's Chandlery Closing for Winter on Sundays

When I said in my previous posting that..... "at Fox's there is a huge reservoir of knowledge and advice on things technical that you don't get when you buy online"..... I was thinking specifically of Henry (Addy has already gone). I recently bought a vhf from Fox's for £20+ more than I could have got it online simply because of the help and advice I got from Henry. If true, this is very sad news and very short-sighted of the management. Soon they will have nothing "extra" to offer.........

I think that perhaps Fox's haven't been doing their market research. Replies on here seem to suggest their main trade is (1) retirees who'll be around during the week anyway, and (2) other passing on their way to and from boats at Woolverstone, Pin Mill and Shotley.

No wonder there isn't enough trade when they open 10 to 4 (was it?) on Sunday. They obviously needed be open 8 to 10 and then 5 to 7!

According to the Chandlery manager, Sunday is their quietest day.
It will be pretty irritating to be based on site and have to travel elsewhere for that odd bit to finish a job...

I was saddened to learn that Henry had left as his service and more importantly knowledge in the products he sold was outstanding and often better that the manufacturers own technical department!

Oh well, another company will no doubt be benefitting from his knowledge!

In my experience Ipswich "chandlery" has less stock than Shotley...

I think the "chandlery" at Shotley is up against it a bit with everyone having to drive past Foxs to get there, Wolverstone was the same Challenge. I think the remit for Shotley is to keep the essential stuff and do keep some useful things. They are often reasonably competetive, i bought my antifoul from them and they were as cheap as anyone. Some acetone i bought was substantially cheaper then Foxs.

Ipswich Haven Chandlery is open on Sundays. You are right, not masses of choice so it isn't a "pop down for a browse" place, but they seem to have most of the small essentials that you may need immediately for a maintenance project so certainly an option on a Sunday. It worked for me last week :)
