Foul water

Just been down to the good ship after a week away, discovered the loo was half full of foul water, anybody got any ideas whats wrong ?
The loo is an electric freshwater flush, with holding tank, don't think its full as indicator light is not on.
I have 2 loos on board and the other one is fine, so it may be a problem with the loo its self.
The boat is a Sealine F43

Not sure what make Sealine fit, I cant see a makers name on them.
Maybe there is a service kit available, not a job I fancy though !! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
 
Dont know how foul water would come back from a holding tank, when I presume the holding tank is below the toilet?
 
Yep it can. Cos the pipe has to go through a bit of a loop, before the holding tank. Bit like a U bend. So stuff in the pipe can come back. There's a Joker valve to stop this. But lets say a turd gets half way though when the flushing stops, it will be open'ish. Thus the water comes back. Or the Joker valve is knackered, costs about a fiver, easy to replace.

Have you forgotten the infamous exploding toilet thread from many years ago and the account of mount Vesuvius.
 
Bit tricky as I live four hours drive from the Solent!

I'd suggest you arrange a pump out of the holding tank before you start. Then pour loads of clean fresh water through the bog to shove any offending articles out the pipe and through to the tank.

It's not too bad a 'job' as long as you ensure that the only spillage you get will be relatively clean water. Have loads of bog roll/kitchen roll/disposable rags to hand.

Another tip is to position a standard cooling fan outside the kharsi so it's blowing clean air directly at your face.

A clever trick (as, I believe, invented by TCM of these fora) is to get SWMBO out of the way and, before you tackle the job, smear loads of molten chocolate all over your face/back of the hands/arms/etc..

Remember to take a picture of her face as she sees you leaving the repaired bog.
 
Oh, what an excellent plan! Seriously, 't'ain't that complex a job. As Haydn implies, the secret is roughage. The joker valve is a lot like a heart valve and relies on not getting jammed by solids to work, so overly 'firm' deposits will block the bugger allowing back flow of the contents of the pipe/tank/Solent/whatever.

My lad dropped a particularly offensive item down our old manual Crapper that needed to be despatched with the aid of a diving knife before the joker valve could deal with it...

Incidentally, peanut butter adds to the realism, particularly if you 'spot' a lump on your arm then lick it off in front of SWMBO/kids/guests

That's a useful addendum. Makes me (almost) look forward to my next round of bog-fixing duties.
 
That's brilliant... Chocolate and peanut butter /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I just spent 2 days fixing the toilet. Had to replace the whole tube between toilet and holding tank.
The pipe was fully furred up and unable to break through it even with a drain pipe tool hooked up to a power drill.

I wish I had done the chocolate thing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
