forum suddendly has video playing in the background...

Not just me then !!!

I do wonder what marketing idiot thought such an idea would work.

I note the background is trying to flog us perfume, Yves St Laurent, presumable for SWMBOs Xmas, well I'm not buying it.

Indeed when I do go Christmas Shopping (Uh!!!) I will make a point that I do not but YSL products simply as a way of expressing my annoyance..

The only way I can participate in these forums is to use on my tablet, Ad Blocker and on my main pc Brave. Over the years the adverts and the way they are presented has caused numerous problems.

Are there still ads on the internet? I've not seen any for years.

I would appreciate a recommendation for an ad blocker app for an android device, please.
Post 4 i mentioned AD blocker that I use on my samsung tablet.

Edit bit. Added picture. Not the best of screen shots. There are other ad blockers and add ons to other browsers but I'm not techi unlike others here.

They are not making enough money from selling magazines any more, so they have to make their money by over-crowding the forum with advertising.

I guess the alternative would for forum members to pay a subscription. They are a business after all, not a charity.

Without some form of ad blocking I couldn't view these forums on either my main pc or tablet. Most sites seem to be able to control the adverts in some form or other.

They could easily be making lots of money by putting quality content on YouTube as others have done. If La Vagabonde can get a million subscribers then YM should be able to make a decent living by simply releasing videos more regularly, there is clearly a large audience for boat related content. All of the cycling magazines have managed to transition to the modern world, why can't boating? I suspect the reason is the demographics within the community, Tom Cunliffe has given it a go but clearly doesn't understand the format, but even then he's doing it under his own banner rather than through the publisher.
