As many of you know, the performance of our forums has reached a standstill with increasing frequency, culminating this weekend.
<span style="color:blue">"Firstly, let me begin by stating the obvious."</span>

I'm glad to say that as of tomorrow we will have a dedicated developer working to improve the forum code, which is at the heart of the problem.
<span style="color:blue">"We're not sure exactly which version of the source code we're actually running with at the moment, but we've given him everything going back 5 years to look at. He says he's already got to grips with 'makefile' and will have understood 'main' by the end of this week, which sounds good. I understand there are only 638 other source files in the project."</span>

How long this work will take I can't say at this stage, but I wanted to let you know that the redevelopment work is underway finally.
<span style="color:blue">"He insisted on having a desk overlooking the Thames, and has signed up to the IPC final salary pension scheme."</span>

Thanks for your posts on this subject, I know it has been deeply frustrating but now we are moving forward. I'm sure you will feel promises have been made before but I'm confident that we will have a solution very soon.
<span style="color:blue">"...although we are a bit concerned about his recent hardware requisition. What exactly is an IBM z10 EC E64? I don't think we've ordered one of those before."</span>

While I don't know if it will be possible to return to our old search facility as a result of this work, it is something we will also be looking at.
<span style="color:blue">"He said that several source files seemed to be missing, so maybe we'll recompile and relink without them, and see what happens."</span>

Thanks for your patience, more news soon
<span style="color:blue">"He has also asked that we also upgrade our corporate network, providing a direct high-speed link to something very hush-hush known as 'redtube' that I am assured will speed up the development process by a factor of three."</span>

I don't think even a z10 EC E64? is going to make a differnece until they sort out the database query problems

Never heard of redtube before, though it does look very interesting, and will while away many hours when ybw is down again!

Should just shove hardware at it. Most forums these days are pretty well built...just shove extra disk and cpu power at it. As long as the indexes and maintenance scripts are running it should just run...hardware...

Hope it wasn't written in AppleSoft Basic with ^D, nor UCSD Pascal /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
