...I'm having a serious sense of humour failure over the person(s) who managed to have a great deal of fun forcing old threads to the top of the pile, making Motor Boat Chat virtually useless. Yes, well done, you spotted it, if dateslip is on you can add a post to an old thread, delete it again and still leave the thread at the top. If you have the time to spend your whole afternoon doing this, fine, I'm pleased for you that this is the new focus in your life.

Whoever you are, you might not have liked the date slip facility but there were those who had been asking to give it a go and it seemed only fair to try it. I was listening to all sides, knew I would never please everyone but now I'm in a strop, thumping the desk with my head etc etc. Dateslip is turned off again for now. Those who don't like like please kindly blame the children who gave me little choice.

Now can someone tell me where I threw my toys...?

Kim,

Leave it on, the infants will get bored after a day or two.

That said, I'm seriously starting to wonder what point there is in reading and contributing to this board anyway though, the level of intellect seems to have gone down the toilet. Great shame, had a lot of potential once...

One or two people on here have gone through the floor in my estimation recently.

Pity.

Kim stop being melodrama queen

Cor blimey calm down Kim. All that happened was about 6 old threads got pushed to the top. So friggin what? Why the melodrama? You yelled it made "Motor Boat Chat virtually useless" - pretty wild exaggeration.

So calm down, put date slip back on for a few days, let's see if we like it, then decide whether to switch it on or off.

Who\'s thrown his Teddies out of the pram?

Bit childish Kim? If you won't play properly I'm gonna take my ball home, eh?

Switch it back on, let them have a few gripes and games, they'll soon get fed up with it then over the coming days or weeks we can all have a chance to see if we like it and then do your poll and decide.

As it is, all you've done is let the lunatics run the asylum.

Of course all IMHO etc.

Re: Who\'s thrown his Teddies out of the pram?

Please switch it back on - the idiots messing about have a short attention span and will soon get tired of messing other up.

I run a number of forums on other non-boat sites and have date-slip on them all - it is a far better system.

So press the switch .... it will quickly settle in.

Go on switch it back on. I actually found it a lot more friendly to use. I would also love my next thread to get that reatment, it wouls laso relegate less focused things (jokes?) to drift down faster.

Cant say that I was that impressed with the new on top thingy. But others seemed to like it so it was worth a go.
Think errr watsisnam! was only pointing out what could be the problems with the new system. But it's no reason to change. Just cos him or me says so. There could be times when it's a good idea to bring things from the past, back to the fore.
Course you could have just deleted the threads if you wern't happy with them, dont think any one would have minded. Or leave them alone. Soon disapear. Bit over the top. Throwing toy's out the pram though!!

No one can force me to come here-----------

Turn it back off please....

please please please, its a pain, I manage my inbox by leaving things in there that I know I have to do something with, in a similar way, I look down the posts to find the most recent one I read, then work my way up till I get to the top. Plus any old ones with a red mark that were particularly of interest I read, I cant do it now as they are all jumbled up.

Please, please, it was off, then on, then off, now its back on, can we have it turned off for good.

......girls, girls, get back, please, one at a time......

Re: grovelling apology

It didn't take all afternoon, and didn't think it wd cause THAT much angst. Sorry!

I think it forces concentration upon mainstream questions, whereas a one-off that will get only one or two responses will flow to the bottom, which will be missed by the infrequent users to which the difficult questions may be relevant. And, unless you use the board several tmes a day, you'll miss older posts. But anyway

Re: grovelling apology

But surely it's only the hot topics that will keep going to the top replacing each other. Older threads will disappear in much the same way as they did before, slowly falling off the bottom when new threads are added. Much much better having the timeslip ON as threads of interest and recent input are elevated to show this.

Timeslip should be on. IMHO

It took a little getting used to but semed to work well. I have to agree with Matt (aaaarrrggghhh) as it does keep the current topic at the top of the list and I thought that it created more interest and more posts.

Leave it on IMHO.

Heavens to Murgatroyd - even

I go away for three days. I return to find the cat is not speaking. Dear heart has met up with her sister and is the worse for chardonnay. The Boss has sent me a rather snotty email about not being in and not telling anyone that I was going. I decide - well at least there's always the forum - at least that will be normal. Couldn't have been more wrong. - Maybe if I hadn't gone away.....?

Re: Back on now...

Well he can't pull his hair out over it, he hasn't got any.....slap on the wrist for that one<G>. Kim in all seriousness. The time slip thing seems to be a bit of a no no with a fair few. I think the board would be better if you enabled links in the posts, and what about those smiley things you were playing with, Much tidier than all the ;-) <G> ;-0 :)) and all those type of thingys

Wha'dya mean "I'm always playing with this engine" its the only way to get it to run!

Yep - I like it as well. Please leave it on.

You could always say do a poll in two weeks.
Two posts
a) I'm in favour of the change
b) Im not in favour of the change
and see have many replies (duplicates not counted) to each one.

In fact this may be the way to resolve a number of issues and get a numberical result. 9 out 10 boaters who expressed a preference said "......."

Could catch on ........

Adrian

Any jobs going ??
