I remeber years ago there was a couple who went round the UK in a Hardy Pilot (thanks boatone for info) Raised loads for charity and were chronicled in the press.

Just a thought but would it be possible in a smaller Hardy, say an 18 ft Navigator or would such an adventure be foolhardy?

Short hops, no records being broken?

Well, the Pilot was only 20 feet so cant see much difference between that and an 18 footer.

In my younger days, my first boat was an 18 foot Caprice Pocket Sailing Cruiser which, before my ownership, had apparently done more than one transatlantic crossing.

Guess it all depends how competent and adventurous you are - but maybe not in that order :D

I don't see why it should be adventurous or foolhardy in the slightest, remember Frank and Margaret Dye circumnavigated Iceland in a 16' Wayfarer open sailing dinghy - though that's pushing things a bit in my estimation...

Going around Scotland or the whole UK is just, like so many things, a matter of having time and money, the larger amount of each, the better !

Yes it would be foolhardy, when are we going? :)

Wasnt "Shrimpy" a Caprice?

Sailed around the world twice crewed by Shane Acton and his girlfriend. Can't go wrong with a Robert Tucker design.

Now your Hardy on the other hand - that's a completely different "jeux de balon." However, with the right skipper (which I'm sure The Binman is) and a good crew aboard it ought to be perfectly possible to do a quick skip around the UK (via Caly Canal and thus avoiding the prickly bits) and still be home in time for tea!

Simples!

with the time and funds, its the sort of trip most owners of
smaller boats would like to try, you will find a few willing to
crew for you,
adventures on the water,,, its the reason we buy boats :D

With a suitable amount of care and planning, i can't see why not.

Someone did it in 2008 with a Merry Fisher 625

Yes Arny. Far as I know, he's never stepped on a boat since.

We were going Plymouth to Conwy about the same time. He caught us up after we stopped in Conwy.

Think he took on a bit more than he bargained for and dont think he eared very much for the RNLI. Still, he made it round......eventually.

However, with the right skipper (which I'm sure The Binman is)

Simples!

I,ll second that.
That's a pint you owe Me!;)

Oops the skipper bit not the 'Simples'!
Oops, having said that, I,m not too sure

OK, that's a pint I owe you;)

Yeh, I remember the gig in the Hardy Pilot, probably still got the Mag with the report in bein an 'anorak' cetra cetra.

Binny if you fancy a go count Me in Mate
I,m up for a bit of that.
Outboard still poorly?
I know a man who can innit:D
Folks The Binman is quite a good boaty person by the way.
Pint back to Me I reckon;)

Well I would'nt do it, even in MF, never mind a little boat. Theres just to many **** places you have to go to and you can hardly go anywhere nice. Far to busy working the fuel and weather windows out. Nah, up the west coast and back again, with a different route.
