As the crow fly's I'm about 1.5 miles from the blackwater and it's very flat between Mayland and Latchingdon!!
If we get 2m above the predicted high tide - I'll be able to sail right up to my lounge!!!! Oh well swings and roundabouts I guess!!!

According to Wells harbor webcam the tide has gone above the quay 2.5 hours Before HW.

I decided I would be better & happier o/b. arrived 20 mins ago. the pontoons are all lashed together across the openings. sea dweller still afloat, I have checked her lines. the marina staff are on duty. will keep you posted as long as the wifi holds out

I wondered about popping down to Shotley, but don't really have time. Might go tomorrow to check. Hopefully all will be well, but a number of local marinas must be considering whether they need to urgently increase the height of the piles retaining the pontoons.

Knowing the situation its a duty of care to check all is well, imo this is the 2nd time I have been to see her over a surge tide the past 5 yrs. All is well here but by 02.00z tonight might be different. on the drive here all were driving very sensibly indeed

Perhaps we need all the hammerhead boats to be manned and keeping station with engines. Another 1m on the piles sounds a great idea though.
Surge is already 1.28m and 0.5m ahead of predicted time. Hopefully means the maximum will be well before HW and hence total height will be within pile limits.
Surge now 1.6m.

Surge 1.99m at Margate now, just past LW. Looks to me as though the surge might now be well south of the flood tide, maybe that's a good thing although I presume the water already here has still got to go somewhere during the next 6 hours?? Media frenzy down here especially in Sandwich, cameras peering at people filling sandbags, interviewing one elderly local who said she was very frightened. I do cringe at the way this is all being put forward as a certainty especially by the EA. I do hope it doesn't happen, of course, but there seems no admission that this sort of stuff cannot be predicted with 100% accuracy.

Seems to be stabilising at about 2.3m above prediction.
High tide prediction is 4.12 @ 01.20.
Hopefully the surge will have abated by then or we could be looking at a 6.4m tide

Just spoken to Mike at Martalsham Creek boatyard where Sirenia is in a half tide pontoon Berth.
They will be on the lookout until the highwater has passed.
That is comforting to know.
