I'm going to be looking at a couple of boats in the US in the next month or so and wondered if it were cheaper to buy flights here to both locations or whether to fly to one and purchase tickets for second flight over there. Anyone with any experience of this?

My thanks in advance.

I have bought boat in the US and have been over about five times in 2004, and booked next trip for April to move the boat to various locations so have used a variety of internal flights. Expedia UK is good place to start. I get them to quote for the whole itinerary, and the internal flight element costs next to nothing using their multidestination option on the flite finder part of their website. E.G. London to Charlotte -£325, as against London-Charlotte-Panama City £342.50.
I pick out my itinerary with Expedia, note the details and then go on the Airline's website and ask for the same itinerary. If they quote higher I phone them up and ask them to beat Expedia's price (after all Expedia are taking a cut along the way) and the Airline usually does. Some of the American sites won't allow you to complete from a UK ISP, so I just phone the number on the website.
AVOID anything that routes you via Toronto or Montreal. Changing at either of these airports is absolute hassle and have missed connections cos of the chaos. Calgary is OK for flights to Western USA. Charlotte is really good airport to change through and often turns up cheap deals with US carriers.Take your own ear phones if you want to watch movies as Star Alliance have started charging for headsets
When we booked internal flites in USA didn't find them particularly cheap, although Expedia US site very good for one way tickets back to UK.
Cheapest car hire so far has been National, booked at the airport, espescially for one way hires. They often will give really good deals if they have cars that they want to send back to home bases in the direction your going in. AVIS was most expensive by a long way, with lots of add ons to the quoted price. Expedia UK a close second to national in terms of value for money. Car hire companies' websites seem to quote very high prices. One on line 'cheap deal' of $395 became $228 for the next size up when just picked up at the airport!
Good Luck. PM me if there is anything I can give you info on.
