flare disposal (again)

So it seems the Police in counties with a coastline are likely to assist even though its only the CG that has a duty to assist whereas in landlocked Warwickshire they prefer we drive to the nearest CG to dispose of them even though it is reportedly illegal to carry them in a vehicle, ie even the Police dont seem know what the law actually is!

Marinesuperstore in port solent have now taken mine without any fuss whatsover, thank goodness .... I have only praise for their customer service for this and another incident with a faulty epirb.

Hi, no mention of cost was made. Yes from what I was told it IS illegal to own on board or to transport on land out of date flares, talk about being between a rock and a had place, dammed if you don't and dammed if you do!!! It would be interesting to be hauled into court and get the opinion of the beaks, typical modern laws.
I suspect this is not true; dibble are often ignorant of the minutiae of the law, especially if it's not of the criminal variety. The problem with this is when you ask for an opinion they will play safe and may tell you whatever you want to do is illegal rather than risk getting it wrong with the associated comeback. Nice of them to volunteer to come and take your flares away, but I think the CC would put the kibosh on that if everyone starts doing it.

Cambridgeshire police were very helpful, and Cambridgeshire doesn't have a coastline (zero height contours, but no coast!)
