I have just read on the BBC news on the web, some politically correct person, wants the Cross of St. George celebrations and patron saintship, removed from England, because, it upsets some muslim countries and people of muslim religion in this multi racial country of ours, because of it's conotations during the crusades! The bloody crusades for goodness sake! Go on, tell me what are your opinions on the royal navy and others, being unable to fly a cross of St. George, I would love to know, I know what would happen in Scotland if they tried to take our Cross of St. Andrew of us!! I think it's just one step too bloody far!
I'm not predjudiced or homophobic, but this pandering to all and sundry does have to stop somewhere, try having a beer in Saudi, or building a church there or in most hardline muslim nations, look at Pakistan or the strife in India and many other places, I don't want that in the UK, but it's heading that way rapidly. Tolerance in all things, religous and national identity/traditions. But don't tell me what flag I can fly, unless of course it is a swastika, but of course thats not illegal!

Right with you Colin. I think the ability to fly our national flag as well as the cross of St George is a given right. If it upsets someone then they can look the other way or leave.

It's pretty easy to see how the right wing (NF) could steal "middle England" if they wanted to.

Through difficulties to the bar (IMHO / FWIW / NWGOI)

Just hearing about it is enough...I really dont want to read about it..........
Its only about 20 years ago that I wrote to a certain Iron Lady suggesting that they become 'Common-Sense Conservatives' and get people to pay more to provide decent bloody health/education/transport services. Why does everybody wake up when its too late. I cant believe were begging foreign companies to rescue us.......its time we re-enacted Dunkirk..all in favour say aye..................

It's all a bit silly - how about we go to their country and ask their government to remove their national flag - belt you get a dam good beating and chucked in jail.

Similarly all these nosey reporters that bug celbs - how about someone puts their private life on the front page - see how they like it - probably make better reading.

Not everything is black and white if you prove otherwise you’ll get run over on a zebra crossing

A multicultural society has to be underpinned by tolerance across racial, religious and cultural divides - tolerating a flag, a religious ceremony, national dress, food, music, language, colour. If we don't, history has proven many times that trouble ensues.

The essence of Englishness

Just maybe the fact that such twaddle is reported on the BBC actually demonstrates what a civilized country this is and maybe the fact that we English dont take to the streets on St George's Day demonstrates how sure we are about our nationality. I tend to think that those peoples who are constantly droning on about their patriotism, mentioning no Celtic names here, have a deep rooted emotional insecurity which requires them to reaffirm their nationality at every available oppurtunity. On the other hand, we English are discretely secure in the knowledge that England is God's own country but our innate modesty prevents us from shouting about it all the time

You stuffed India, America, Africa, and Australia with your Imperialist manner and perhaps you thought you once ruled the world.
Well what have you now for all your might?
