Can this be a DIY job. My dad was a mechanic for about 20 years, and Im an engineer by trade, what is involved? Im presuming just a switch anywhere along the wires feeding the sparks...

How much does it cost to get it done professionally, it just seems quite an easy job to do myself...

or is it!!?

hehe

Found a kill cord conversion switch on ebay for my Johnson 3hp outboard. It wasn't expensive and it was just a matter of replacing the stop button - an hour's work.

I'll look up the source - I'm sure they just market them. Will post again after I've had a look on my ebay page.

In answer to your first question - yes, it does interrupt the h.t. lead.

I'll be back. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm back. The chap I got my switch from has two on eBay. Search "Universal outboard kill switch with lanyard new" or search number - 170104354451.

If you don't presently have a stop button on your outboard then you'll just need to make a 15mm hole somewhere to mount it.

Good luck, Colin. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
