What sort of aerial do i need to fit to my speed boat for a marine radio?
I have a lorry style whip if that will work or do i need something else?
The boat will be used for fishing and i have a ships radio license and all that *******s.
Cheers

You need the proper aerial for a marine band VHF radiotelephone.

You will still have a choice of a whip aerial if that is what you prefer, or a rigid one or a short stubby one.

If you do not use the correct aerial your RT will not transmit properly and you may damage the transmitter.

I hope all that *******s includes the operators certificate ;)

I suggest Glomex type no. RA106 GRPPBUK Available with various types of base, ie bracket to fit on mast etc, threaded base to mount through wheelhouse roof, or 1" x 14 tpi to fit hinge mounts or "A" Frame brackets.

Easy to fit, as the cable is supplied separately and then can be easily routed and then cut to length and fitted to the antenna base with a solderless fitting.

A standard, UHF, 259 plug (small backed) will be needed, to be soldered to the radio end of the cable. The cable type must be standard 50ohm, ie RG58A, RG58U, or UR76. (NOT 75ohm TV COAX)

This antenna works without a ground plane ie not like a car aerial.
Available from most chandleries for about £35-40 all in.
