Seen loads of big mullet under the dinghy. The cormorants often seem to get some fair sized eels and the terns are always busy. Our kids always used to catch loads of crabs. There are often beach anglers on the western spit. Depends what you want to catch I suppose.
I've often seen bass cruising around in the pool that is left on the starboard side of the entrance as the tide is running out. I've been meaning to take a rod and spinning lure there - just waiting for a nice warm summer evening....
Over the large mussel bank just east of the entrance would be OK for bass ,and the East side of Hamstead Ledge just before low water. Beach fishing should also be good, bait or trolling with a spinner for mackerel as well.
