Having returned from our first trip to Guernsey, I thought I'd post a little video diary...

The scrum for the marina in St Peter Port was a big surprise. This video of mayhem on the waiting pontoon seemed to be the norm (I've muted the sound 'cos of the bad language)...

Boat Scrum

Once in, we had a great time and met loads of nice people. Even the four mad Norwegian's behind us for a night on the Sunseeker were good for entertainment value.

On our return, there was a similar scrum for the fuel pontoon. I now know I can do the return trip from Weymouth on a tank full with loads to spare (71 miles, 2000 rpm, 22 knots, 271 litres).

Once on our way we saw 2 basking sharks and these Pilot whales...

Pilot Whales

Having read the recent threads about the disturbance wakes can cause, in open water, I consider it a hazard everyone has to live with....

Condor Wake

Hope the video streaming works. You'll probably need broadband to view these.

Cheers!

Fairly normal! The past few times I have been there I have timed my arrival to go straight to the fuel pontoon and and fuel up, then as I leave there go straight in before they release the hordes!

The vids worked well, what a scrum. Thats one thing about being based in North Wales, there are a lot less boats, and it can be very nice. We had lunch parked outside Carnarvon castle in the harbour, no hassle, and very few boats, and plenty of spare moorings. Can\'t open it

Hi
I can't open it.
I get the error message "The source filter for this file could not be loaded." I have XP with the latest service pack and Media Player 10.
Any ideas??
Anyone else with the same problem?

Edit to above
I'm on AOL and just thought to open up IE and try ...and it works. So just an AOL thing!!!

Are they really pilot whales, or are you very good at video editing? If they are then either you're very lucky or I'm very unobservant, 'cos I've seen nothing similar in years of UK boating.

I would suggest we were very lucky. We've not seen anything before this apart from a dolphin in Weymouth marina.

On this trip we saw 3 basking sharks and 11 long-finned pilot whales. I've logged the sighting and sent the video to the WDCS. I can give you the exact co-ords if required, but it was approx 11nm nnw off the Casquets.
