First trip in new boat (moody photo)

What a stunning shot! It would be calendar worthy if you could photoshop out the flappy thing on the horizon!

Lindsay Lord , who designed “ rum runners “ boats in the prohibition, American PT boat hulls in WW2 , became prof of marine science / hydrodynamics at MIT after the war .

Reckons the best planing boats hulls should not exceed 4 degrees angle of attack .

The faster you go the lower the angle ....it should reduce with speed , once up .

Its it’s centre of gravity of the rear weight sterndrive 45 ftr and probably not enough lift at the stern , despite a shallow deadrise .

Any how over and above the great artist element , framing etc , it’s the AoA that shouts at me .
Its only because I have read the book :)

What boat is that? The Sunseeker 48 San Remo? What are you first impressions of the boat? Looking at upgrading to that boat.

Your social graces are simply inspirational

However, food for thought. Many planing vessels deliberately widen the steep V entry to generate bow lift to reduce the wetted area and improve performance and economy especially at lower planing speeds. I believe this became a considered factor long after your fella who I dare say was probably a peer of Lord Nelson. :p

Yes, Sunseeker San Remo . Really pleased with it, I’ve had a couple of Princess’s in the past and to me build quality seems to be a step up and to my eyes better looking than the competition (appreciate that‘s just a matter of taste).
In the photo it does look like it’s running bow high but I think it’s just at that particular speed, it actually runs pretty flat and with the bow dropping away visibility is really good, I find myself sitting at the helm more than I have done in any previous boats.

At least you have it in the better of the two ghettoes (y) Not that there is much in it before you congratulate yourself. Just keep it far from the fuel pontoon, any closer than you are and .... well it's a pirate thing, and a lack of bow thrusters in the SWerlies, but mainly pirate. ?
