First time out of the River

Ha! You're not the first but there haven't been many........but no prizes, I'm afraid.
There were some red faces at the publishers when it was first noticed, I can tell you.

Has anyone recently crossed swhere tho old Sunk Beacon used to be?

Blurry wind is not beink kind to me today and I don't much fancy punching it in the face through the SW Sunk?

Followed this thread with great interest. Loads of good advice - the YBW Forum at it's best.

Dolabriform, do report back post trip and tell us all how it all went.

Sail safe and best of luck.

Currently at anchore in the Walton Backwaters, unblocking the bog - the other side of sailing!

Did the job Op make it. I have come round to the Deben today no sign of the boat yet. I'm at Ramsholt now

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances I got stuck at Felixstowe Ferry and was unable to make the tide out on Saturday :(

I ended up going back up to Woodbridge, and then had a fun day sailing today.

Thanks to everyone for your kind help and words of encouragement, I now have a passage plan I'm itching to try!

when going out against the flood, keep inside on the ferry side well to the west in the moorings, x over by the ferry landing & go right close to the Bawsey beach keeping the groin markers to port, this keeps you out of the tide. Then as you get to the seaward end of Bawdsey gradually follow the e/s as you ease over to the Felixstowe side. This way you don't fight the main flood tide. The Bar is narrow but very straight forward i came out today @ 10.00 min depth under the keel 0.90 m, so 2.8m real depth HW was 13.00 ish .
try a day sail out & back to see how it goes

Pix last night @ Ramsholt

Thanks Sailorman as ever, that's a very good idea to take a day sail!

Then go ashore @ The Ferry for a pint & F & C :encouragement:
John White the HM will give you good advice on tactics

Neaps coming up so less tidal stream. out first "yacht" was a Silhouette 2 with a 4hp evenrude on the back & Ramsholt based. with low power you soon learn

I had the privilege of meeting John on Saturday, lovely chap. And the ferry man is great, both times I've been there he has come alongside for a chat. Must buy him a beer!
