First time out of the River

We rpoof read the contents until blue in the face. We also see and approve the front and back covers.
But not the spine. We will next time!
Our maps were rigorously proofed before going to print, and my first boss in that line was an absolute stickler for checking. But we still got "parantheses" prominently in the title bar of a high profile map of Antarctica!

I am a motor boater so not quite the same as you sailing types. I have a 19 foot Sports Cruiser moored at the ferry and also a couple of 17 foot speed boats and a small rib and pop out over the bar all the time. My best advice is to just pop out to the safe water buoy (Woodbridge Haven) have a sail around then sail back in this will give you confidence. The Deben bar is in my view talked up too much and can put people off

Now that's an idea, maybe I should ask him to take me the admiral and I out for a tour of the Bar.

( The River that is ;) )

Humm would agree with both these excellent posts with suggestions that would be really effective in overcoming Yachties dread of that 'Deben Bar' .
In another thread on here I suggested visiting the 'Bar' at low tide to actually observe the river bed first hand and so learn whats under neath a Yacht where making the passage in or out
