Hi all,

Looking to purchase my first boat in the next two weeks, which I will be mooring at Ocean village Southampton or Gosport Marina. I have drawn it down to two boats a Sunseeker Martinique 38 and a slightly newer Martinique 39. My budget it £50k (could stretch this for a bargain) and I am looking to minimise my losses over 18 months as if I enjoy boating I will up my budget and get something newer and bigger. I am a proper petrolhead and have a lot of knowledge on high end cars but boats are something new to me apart from a few years on the solent on my Dads Mcgregor 26x trailer sailer. Boat ideally should berth 4+2 and have plenty of room on deck for entertaining as will be used at weekend for friends to come along etc.

Whatever I buy I am going to do my ICC on to gain some confidence.

Wondered if anyone had any other recommendations, looking to get a boat ASAP.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

First of all welcome.
So secondly don't be in a hurry to buy, boats are very different to cars(to state the blindingly obvious!)
I like the two boats you are looking at but be careful as I have seen quite a few early SS suffering from stress cracking & hull blisters. They are easily fixed but it is not cheap ! Do have a survey if in doubt.
Also make enquiries about O V as I thought that more building work is to start there soon (so a very dirty boat every time you go down) perhaps Gary O could advise as I believe he moors there.
There is a lot more to boat buying but I will give other people an opportunity to comment.
Regards

Ps. And don't forget to insure it!!
IMHO

Welcome to boating. I have just purchased a Sunseeker Comanche 40 last week. Great hull on it and an excellent sea boat. Both the boats your looking will have more room down below than mine. Just check the conditions of engine an hull. It's all about those on a power boat.

I suggest you get Volvo Paul of this parish to survey the engines and outdrives ; and some boat handling instruction from Powerskipper - also of this parish.

Was that the bargain comanche at essex boat yards at £49950 I missed out on?

While buying the power boat the quality you need to look for depend upon the plan to do with it. Means you want to use it for fishing, wakeboarding, transpor, waterskiing. The amount that you spend upon the boat depend upon how much you can afford. I think you have to join some boat show before start shopping.
