We went out from Titchmarsh yesterday for the first time since last year. Sadly, as we headed towards Stone Point, the engine alarm went off, so we had to abort our plans, turn back and spent the rest of the day finding out what was wrong - it turned out to be bits of impeller blocking the cooling system. How that happened is a bit of a mystery - we'd had an impeller disintegrate last year, but we were pretty sure we'd got all the bits, as we counted them! Of course, they were caught in the one joint in the cooling system that I hadn't undone before!

Good to hear you you are back on the water, albeit briefly.

It might be worth considering adding a filter after the pump to catch any broken bits of impeller. Sods law will of course mean that once fitted, you will not suffer this problem again.

A good idea, if only there was room! The water pump is driven from the cam-shaft, and the pipe to the block then passes between the oil filter and the fuel filter, next to the alternator drive pulley. The good news is that there's reasonable access to the point where anything must inevitably end up sticking.

 This is as near as I can get to a green with envy smiley (about going out, not the motor).

I booked to come out for A/F etc some time in Feb/March but I am still stuck on H with a winterised engine and fouled bottom and prop. I am reduced to cleaning duties.

Went out for a day sail last week. Flat calm to start but a nice breeze later and a great time was had. Mostly everything still worked! Alternator belt is shagged though and I only noticed late as batterys went flat just as I was packing up. Got them out and to car in darkness and left the belt for next visit and daylight. Antifoul doing well after two years in with most of the weed eroded off by end of the day.

At least it happened somewhere fairly safe and convenient, it could have chosen a time and place much more serious.

Went out today, sailed up the river Deben to Waldringfield, Ramsholt was deserted with only about a dozen boats afloat - Ramsholt Arms deserted of course. More boats afloat at Waldringfield with several Laser dinghy out, Waldringfield pub closed of course and then we motored back to our mooring at Felixstowe Ferry. Good weather and nice to be afloat at last.

Yes, dinghies were out in force at the Twizzle as well. Looked to be having a good time!

We are on our swinging mooring as of yesterday and had a nice little sail up the Stour. Count myself lucky to be launched. We did not get all of our jobs done but took the slot offered.

With many boats hereabouts in the water most of the time, first time out means the exact opposite ;)

Glad to hear it wasn't too traumatic - better luck on the next trip✅

Having converted to the theory of boat enjoyment being the direct inverse of boat length, I launched my lovely 16 footer Ruby on Sunday (10 days ago) and had a lovely solo paddle over to Bradwell beach for luncheon and a beer or two. I was amazed how many people I saw on the beach, 24 at one point, in family groups, and that was five days before we were told we should have been following our instinct after all.Ruby Bradwell beach.pngUntitled.png

I was enjoying the row so much that when I got back to the hammerhead, I pressed on and went and enjoyed an unusually deserted Ray Island, but it was half tide. I clocked 8 miles that day, and have had several trips since, including a five-miler this morning, around Great and Little Cob in Tollesbury Fleet, averaging 3 knots. No outboards or inboards to worry about, perfect peace (apart from un-greased rowlocks squeaking), zero carbon footprint, and still back at my desk for ten.

It makes you wonder why they don't design a built in filter here anyways. Only needs to be a cleanable metal strainer to work.
