First Outing!

I planned to go sailing on that first Sunday after the lockdown was lifted. Went over to boat Saturday to do some odd jobs beforehand as haven't been on her since late febuary. Went from cabin to cockpit in a hurry as just started up heater pump as replaced fuel line and wanted to make sure it wasn't spitting diesel into locker. Unfortunately I forgot I'd opened up rear engine access hatch and fell right down it nearly breaking my ankle! Been off ever since and on crutches for first week as ripped some tendons in foot. Pain made me feel rather ill at the time. Needless to say didn;t go sailing on the Sunday! Went back over yesterday though to carry on finishing minor jobs and fit a small smart tv that only consumes 26w when on which I'm impressed with.

It makes you wonder why they don't design a built in filter here anyways. Only needs to be a cleanable metal strainer to work.
As I noted above, there simply isn't space between the water pump and where it enters the block. The Volvo 2003 is well designed in that all the filters etc. are readily accessible at the front of the engine, but that means that the pipe from water pump to the block is short and passes between both oil and fuel filter on the way while avoiding the alternator belt and pulley!

Second outing yesterday went well! Didn't go far - just motored out to Pye End and sailed back. Lovely day - not like today! Had to fix a problem with the jib furler, but as I noticed it, it got sorted before it caused a problem! Engine ran perfectly - I checked the water pump impeller before we left!
