On Friday I took the train to Falmouth to get the keys to a very nice targa 33.
The previous owner was kind enough to come down and spend a hour going over everything with me.
My lady and her son came down by car later that night...so all was set for a little run back to Southampton.
The forecast was just perfect and at 11am on Saturday we filled her full with fuel and headed off into the unknown.
All was well..cruising at 20kts...a perfect day out. Lots of fog around Plymouth but we managed to stay south of the bank for the whole trip.
First stop was Torquay to pick up two more people.
About 40 mins before we got there and after cmi g down off of a wave I lost all power to the port engine gauges....but the engine still worked. As I'm new to this type of engine and setup I was a bit concerned but we carried on into Torquay without any issues.
Once inside I found that the connections on the back of the port ignition let were loose...a simple fix.
Set off for Portland for our overnight..again a flat calm sea..just perfect. Got there just as it was getting dark and all was well. My lady then spent the next couple of hours shouting at the tv...think there was some kind of sporting event on.
The forecast for Sunday was for strong winds....so up early...more fuel and away by 08:30. We were met by a flat calm again all the way to the Solent....just perfect.
A lunch stop at the folly and home to the itchen for 3pm.
I used about 8 gallons an hour which is what what the previous owner said. Had one other small issue which baffled me. Went over a red funnel ferry's wake and about five seconds later the starboard engine overheated. So I stopped and checked the strainers...nothing found...started the engine and all was well for the remaining 45 mins home. Maybe the water inlet got blocked for a second.
Anyway all was well and we we so lucky with the weather.
So if you see a targa 33 named el cid in the Solent come say hi.
