Or it certainly felt a bit like it anyway. Sunday saw our first day at our new Marina - Chichester Yacht Basin as I still know it, but the owners probably prefer Premier Chichester.

Anyway, my paents had a boat here during the 80's so I remember a lot, but it was still going to be the first time using the lock with me in charge so I was a little aprehensive.

As it turned out, there was nothing to worry about and one quickly call on the VHF to the hugely friendly staff in the office had the procedure sorted - call up, wait a short while and lock out. Simple.

Sunday also was crew No.1's first go on the boat. SWMBO and I wewre both a little nervous as to how she would take it, so a little pootle up the harbour and a quick dash to Gosport for lunch seemed like just the ticket.

We need not have worried, despite looking a little unsure at first

She soon got the hang of it and started to enjoy herself

Befor giving it the ultimate seal of approval and falling asleep

That just leaft a leisurly run to Pompy and a stop in Gunwarf Quays. We were put next to a whacking grat big superyacht - Mylin IV or something. Very impressive with lots of crew about. Didnt get a piccie, but did anyone else see her?

Gunwarf was full of boats, but not so many in the harbour as we left

And as it was clouding over we decided to try out juniors wet weather gear - in dashing pink!!!!

Well, you never know when you mght need it, especially with reprobates like these floating about

Still, we motored off on the look out for more reprobates (froumites /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) but they had called it a day early leaving the solent a bit empty

A good fast cruise back at 30knts ish and Georgia went to sleep again until we slowed down to enter the harbour. I think she likes the boat going fast, which is good /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Enough time for a tidy up and for little miss to have a go in dads seat

All in all a nice day out. Very pleased with the new marina, and have even decided to join the on site yacht club who have quite an active motors section.

All in all, I think I'm going to enjoy this family boating lark.

Nice to see EddieA albeit briefly exiting the lock on Sunday evening. If wny forumites are around Chi you are more than welcome to come and say hi (in fact, it would be nice). We are on V06 right now, but that might change when the 34 arrives in a few weeks.

Look forward to seeing you. We're on C.

Falling asleep is, as you say, the ultimate sign of a small one's approval. Our youngest used to wedge herself in a corner of the cockpit and sleep from the moment we left the pontoon until we got back, or maybe it just seems like that looking back.

my my thats a nice boat /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hi Jez,
The boat looked great, I am sorry we didn't have a camera on hand. I am sure we will spot you out there again soon. Glad to see all the family had a good day out too.

Hi Jez, glad to see you're introducing your daughter early to the boating lark. It's amazing how the little ones fall asleep as soon as the boat is underway- our son Joseph (who you might recall also came to see the 34 at EC..) is 3 and a bit now and he still konks out as soon as we moving along, very handy design feature really.
Cheers
Jon.

We always switch to 11 when we come past the forts so we know what is going on in the harbour!!
Should still have been on DW16 so I will have words with the captain!!

I thought someone would.

We have a baby jacket but it is too big for her. I decided that an oversized LJ could do more harm than not having one on an infant, so most of the time she was strapped to mum. She is not very mobile, and wast allowed anywhere she could easily fall out of.

Yet another new LJ being invested in for the next trip though...

A very small baby doesn't really fit in any lifejacket, even the smallest size. With ours, we strapped her in to the portable car seat, then wedged that in the cockpit next to us.

Moving around and the lifejacket came a bit later.

You're right, lots of the baby LJ's still don't fit really young babies. We found the Baltic was best for new borns, as the crotch strap has two attachment points, one being suitable for when they're very young.

This is our son at 3 weeks

At 15 mths old we then bought the crewsaver, as its a bit more comfortable around the neck

Now he's two, he hates wearing the foam type lifejacket 'cos all the bulk is at the front, so he can't see to scribble all over the seating. I've slightly modified an auto gas LJ to fit him better, but still use the foam type in the tender.

Chucking your lad over board at 3 weeks was a bit harsh but I suppose you have to learn em ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for sharing the photos Jez, gives me strenght to know that life on boats goes on even with the litt'uns.

Especially more so, when you get your new Westline W34!!

Great pics Jez, the family are looking well.

Glad you had a good day out, and keep the pics coming.

Cheers

Al.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the lock; we chose Northney over Chi so we wouldn't have to wait or queue to get in/out; we had enough of that at Eastbourne on sunny afternoons.

Family boating sure is fun, here's our smallest trying to tie a bowline...

I hope my SWMBO doesn't read your post; I've told her short stays aren't possible at Gun Wharf, and for the sake of my credit card she's got to believe that /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Fantastic picture! But hey, what made you wait that long before getting him in an LJ? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Isn't that one of those birthing pools? Mum stayed with him for the first couple of weeks and then they figured he'd be ok on his own /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
