First boat

I will be buying my first boat in the next few months.

I am based in Liverpool and intend to berth in North Wales to do coastal cruising and one or two trips a year over to Ireland or Isle of Man

I need a moderately quick boat of 25 knot cruising speed with 4 proper beths to take man and wife plus teenage boy and girl for occasional overnighter.

Budget is £30k ish

Any advice on make and model from the collective expertise of the forum would be helpful

Thanking you in anticipation

Welcome to the watery nut house.
First you need to check where there is amooring available. I could not find one when last I looked.
Cant think what modern 25 knot sleep 4 in comfort, boat you can buy for 30 grand. Well not capable of trips to Ireland as well. Depends what you mean by comfort.

Cheapest sensible diesel boat i saw was barryd's maxum 30 footer but it's 70k, not 30k, and the second two berths are not that proper. Could get a decent 25foot RIB and spend the remaining 10k on hotels?

I think you will be lucky to find a boat that can do all that for 30k. My mate is looking for a similar spec boat and we have looked at 20 boats now.
All about 70 to 85K.

Have you thought about a rag and stick. Oh go on . no go on, go on go on go on go on go on....

Please forget all about the silly 25 knot bit,and lots of nice boats will hove(boaty term) into view.May need a fraction more dosh because you gonna need a diesel to achieve to sort of range you want.Look towards 15/20knots and a few nice stable and reasonably spacious boats come to mind.

lets go over there I am sure I saw a blue bit of sky

Plus you have the sea conditions in that area
lots of overfalls and a bit swelly in the middle of the sea.
how often you going to do 25 knots anyway.

That piccy is not taken in the irish sea and believe me it gets very, very choppy up there, having sailed out of Glasson for a few years and around the IOM I can vouch for that, aswell as being storm bound in holyhead for four days, in September!

Ey. The Irish sea's not that bad. I used to go to Ireland loads of times from Puffelli ?? Once it was dead flat just like a mirror. Not always though. Made the old P33 bounce a bit!! Wold not like to deal with it with any less than my P35 though. Theres nearly no bolt hole any where.
Anyway besides all that. I've just picked up the first batch of MOBO Chat Show. Polo Shirts!!

That is the main problem up there.
if you get caught out your stuck with trusting the boat as there are limited options to run. (esp in a yacht) However i ssuppose if you have navtex et al that risk is reduced.
I have not been offshore in a stinkie but i would assume you would want something 35 ft plus.
I just donot like the option of only one means of propulsion.

I have had some fab crossings tho. but they were with aer lingus ;-) and i was drunk.

Lema 29 footer not 4 berth until you drop the dinette but £30 grand would cover it for single diesel.

I am boating again ;-)

They are a good price, you get what you pay for I guess. I got quite excited when I saw the Lema advertised, but it does look very cheap. Cabin lined with diamond patterned PVC, like you get in Woolworths, stuck on with Evostik, used in vast quantities, judging by the excess everywhere.

Cabin and cockpit fittings look like they'd fall off after hitting first wave over 6 inches!

No, he's finished that. He's now shovelling it back into his garage.
