Forget new.
At that price you have no hope.

Buy 2nd hand, and there will be a huge variety. Princess 30 DS, smaller Princess targa's, Fairline Phantom, etc., and much better value.

Buy a copy of Boats and Planes (sorry Kim !) for sheer number and variety.

Re: Irish Sea

I don't think the Irish Sea is as bad as people are making out, been sailing it for the last 15 or so years.

Just need to take heed of weather forecasts and plan passages accordingly. Spent 4 years cruising it with Polar Fox, including several trips to the IOM in under 4 hours from Preston in a boat a tad under 24'. Always made sure the auxiliary outboard was tested and two tanks of fresh petrol on board, but never once needed it with the trusty Yanmar.

Have made two trips to Anglesey and one to Conway this year since I bought Arctic Fox and had good weather for all of them. Just made sure I looked at the synoptic charts before setting off each time.

Most stretches of open sea can be nasty in the wrong weather, just need to be mindful of what is coming before setting off.

Re: Irish Sea

I was talking mainly about sail/motorsailing, fast boats, allow you to pick shorter eather windows, a trip from glasson to IOM in a boat which does 5-6 knots is a little different, also when you have deadlines to meet. The irish sea has a bad reputation, always has had, I lived in Preston for 15 years and have seen some wondeful storms! Thats not to mention having to take 10meter tides into account, get it wrong and you won't even get out of morcambe bay in 8 hours!! The storms around the IOM are legend! The irish coast, better, due to the lee, from the prevailing winds, had I known better, I would have gone to Ireland and then down the cost, with a run straight over to lands end from there, much more comfortable!
