i am trying to work out how many extinguishers my engine room needs.
not what type.
i worked out the cubic capacity which is 18 cubic metres but looking at the size of extinguishers for sale would mean i will need about 12 appliances.
doesnt seem logical nor practical.
does anybody know the answer.

18 cubic metres for an engine room in a boat of 7m LOA seems a bit high. I think I'd be investing in a new battery for my calculator before shelling out for so many extinguishers.

Are you sure your calculation is correct? The Firemaster GTFE1000 is for 1.7m³; the 1500 for 2.5m³ and the 2000 for 3.4m³. BUT they say DO NOT USE MORE THAN ONE GTFE AUTOMATIC EXTINGUISHER IN THE VOLUME TO BE PROTECTED. (I have the leaflet in front of me). Volume is calculated gross.

Point all 17 extinguishers aft and when you let 'em all off Newton's 1st law will ensure you plane without engines! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

18 cubic m does sound large (3x3x2m???), if true you'll need specialist gear methinks...
