After this thread drifted into a degree of 'conflict', one can only feel sympathy for the owner but especially for the trauma of the whole unhappy episode experienced by the professional skipper. It must have seemed like a nitemare.
 
Is this another case of someone saying things on the internet that they wouldn't say in the real world?

I wonder if the poster of the objectionable comment, as a relative stranger and not knowing who was around him, would have made the same comment stood on the pontoon watching the boat burn and whether he would have been surprised to have got some sharp responses from those around him in return.

Some people seem to suspend the social skills that are considered reasonable in the real world when they get on the internet for some reason and then get all hurt (or others get hurt on their behalf) when their deficiencies are pointed out to them...

To be honest Richard I didn't see you as one of the grumpy antagonists who went for his jugular .

At risk of being banned however , seeing as you asked I'll guess at 40-45 .


the trouble with a forum is some posters will be tapping away in a pub.
A few minutes spare in a friendly happy atmosphere while their mate is waiting at the bar.

Others will be happy and jovial at work .

Others will be holed up , grumpy, missing their boat because the weather is too cold for them
and they start to read hidden messages in posts that the poster never intended to be there.

It was actually meant as a serious post , that is why your post surprised me so much !

Well to get back to topic I hope the regular forum contributors whose boats were close by have come away with no damage. I've not heard anything in these pages but may have missed it within the clutter or the individuals need to keep their powder dry for the moment.
 
The marina staff worked long and hard moving and protecting nearby boats from being damaged - credit to them. Boats on the downwind track do have a covering of soot and an oily residue though. The hammerhead pontoon was moved today as the wreck had settled beneath it and work seems to be continuing ready to raise it. Booms and oil removal work are still ongoing around the marina.

Just a quick note to the above - If you are aware of any boat owners who has subsequently had there boat covered in black soot on either there gelcoat or canopy's then please make them aware that this may have caused quite a lot of damage to there vessel unbeknown to them by becoming in-bedded in either the gelcoat or canvas material so these items need to be looked at very closely upon inspection.
