Fire at East Cowes Marina

Hi Barleycorn,

Nordhavens are a bit specialist, designed for Atlantic crossing, although you are probably correct that many are just Bling and will not make it across the Atlantic or even channel, this one certainly wont get far now !

Unfortunately you have witnessed an ugly side to the forum, IMHO a few should consider an apology or at least consider deleting their posts now they realize the comments have been duplicated.

The forum is made up of all ages and at this time of year especially (turning cold so they are missing their boats) some of the older members get a bit grumpy so please dont be put of contributing in the future as the forum is made stronger , the more different types perspective we have.

A few other little tips on touchy subjects to avoid...........

Dont mistake a Sealine for a Bayliner
Dont call a sports boat a day boat
Dont mention hours used
and a new one on me too, best not call a Nordhaven ugly ;)

Of course, none have been further than the marina entrance...

In fact we had a girl from MBY who crossed the pond with them on one.

I am willing to bet that most Nordhavn owners ex ex sail boat owners...

What ever boat it is ,that's not good. What I do not understand is why wasn't foam used to put it out? Do the services only have water?

I deleted my post as I decided it wasnt my fight but seeing as you have dragged me back in...............

In my opinion this thread is as ugly as barleycorn thinks Nordhavens are, several posters have attacked a relative newbie.

I thought the forum was moderated to control personal attacks.

It takes less time to delete a post than it takes to write one, come on guys, are you really happy with your contributions ?

Hah, Pete: I've smoked your game. It's the old foxhunting argument: if there weren't any raggies about, there wouldn't be any to chase. :D

There is unlimited water available to them, it is possible they had hose length issues as well due to long pontoons & proximity of the pump wagons.
The only reason it was extinguished was because it sank.

Apologies but your post was on there long enough for me to read it, go get a coffee, come back and reply.

Personally I think it was a little off to rattle on about how ugly this poor chaps pride and joy is / was and the gentleman got the response that was to be expected. So if anything he added fuel to the flames..

I suspect that, in insurance terms, this was a total loss hours before the boat sank and all the fire service could do was try to limit the damage to the surrounding boats and structures. I hope they have been successful in that.

Personally, I'm sad to see any boat sink. Every boat is more than the sum of its parts: it's always someone's dreams.

I've amended my post to remove the bit about not being welcome on here but the rest stands, totally insensitive to the owner of Kahu and other forum members who have their "tupperware" boats berthed close by.

back on topic and hope nobody comes on here today with bad news about their pride and joy berthed in EC

I didnt even notice he was a raggie 'honest guv' ;)
I'm colour bind in that respect anyway .

Richard has spoken so I must bow to his ruling, so carry on and stick the boot in !

Who needs new members coming in with their new fancy ideas anyway .

I did not say that! I just say what I think is fair which often gets me into a lot of trouble!

Those images of yesterday stirred frightening memories. Hopefully the diesel tanks may still be intact and full of fuel on the bottom with the hull, rather than leaking. Our friends boat burnt and sank years ago during a passage on the SW coast, thank God all were safe, but not long after she sank the diesel tanks broke loose and floated to the surface intact still retaining the fuel.
