Fingers crossed

Ouch! how did I miss the posting above. A Classic Broom 30 described so derisively. I suppose Lady Gay will now get called an old Banger, evergreen Freemans will be called Buckets and the Broom Crown be dismissed as a Tub.

Certainly!!

Old boats have their place, rotting away at the back of marinas, shoved to the back where no one can see them.

On a more serious note, if old boats are your thing fair play, i just expected more from a self proclaimed money man who enjoys spending his money needlessly.

I've just come up from the bottom of my garden after comforting my 1972 ex-Thames Conservancy Launch she was distraught at the thought of being relegated to Poo Corner in some Marina. I reassured her that the evil lady with such heinous thoughts would not have her wicked way with her and she is still loved by me.

Ouch. I had best look for a new berth then...

The good thing about old boats is you can still spend money needlessly on them.

I think you are getting mixed up...JECuk did not say he had a Porsche, that was No Regrets.

JECuk is the owner of a vessel that was involved in the evacuation of the British Army from Dunkirk, and a very nice "Little Ship" it is too.

No Regrets began boating on the Thames in a new sportcruiser (a Rio Sciani I believe?).

At the low speeds permitted on the non-tidal Thames it created a ludicrous amount of wash, handled like a Walrus and the decks were unsuited to lockwork. Not a bad boat per se, but not suitable for the non-tidal Thames.

Deciding he wanted to carry on boating on the Thames, he bought a more suitable boat (a Birchwood 25), then later moved on to his current Broom 30.

The Broom was totally renovated by Broom before he got it, and it is in as new condition.

Those are the facts as I know them...

I realise that No Regrets has been perhaps less than tactfull, so I understand your reaction! (He does tend to upset people... check out his signature line).

Perhaps it is time to take a breath, realise it takes all sorts of people (and boats) to make the world go round, and cut each other a little slack.

Oh, and try not to p*ss off other boat owners who choose to have an older craft!

Sorry to clarify

I was referring to No Regrets on the Porsche front!

I then linked to the Dunkirk little ships site to show that not all old boats are for the scrap heap!

I fear once the wine flows this thread got turn interesting tonight!

Ah, makes more sense now.

Because he couldnt make a sports boat work for him, anyone who has one and makes it work for them just has to be frowned upon.

:)

Not quite... sportcruisers have their place, but they are not at their best above Teddington! They are much happier running free at a decent speed.

I cannot understand what he sees in those glorified Beetles myself...

But as I said, each to his (or her) own!

If a man is alone in a forest, miles from the nearest woman, is he still wrong?

Not from this end, straight off to the boat after work and i forgot my laptop. So no internet access for me for a whole weekend!!!!!

I did say that somewhere along the line, seems to have been hidden in here somewhere.

Thanks for the lovely comment

Think I better evacuate this thread - I seem to have become collateral damage!!

Enjoy your boaty weekend!

Wish I could... going into St.Thomas' for an Op on Sunday (they are doing the Op on Monday!).

Hoping to convalesce on the boat later though.....!

It wont be an enjoyable one, lots of work to be finished.

Need to replace a trim tab ram, replace the bellows on the other ram, refit the props, apply another coat of antifoul, then finish polishing and waxing her up ready to be relaunched next week.

You mean you don't enjoy the work?

And you an engineer too!

Mind you, according to Weapons Engineers, you Civil Engineers build targets. :)

Thats the problem, when you spend all week at work you dont want to work at the weekend. Weekends are meant for drinking and using the boat, not working on the boat.

Never mind, next weekend it will all have been worth it, hopefully!!
