She's going back in the drink on March 22nd!

I'm shuddering at the thought of the cost, but have booked:

Hull polish and antifoul.
Both engines to be fully serviced inc. filters and impellers
All through fittings to be checked and dealt with.
Other bits and bobs such as Anodes to be done if ness.

The idea is to leave her afloat for around three years, so I don't want to have to pay for another lift unless tragedy strikes, so I figure the only way is to do the lot.

Obviously engine oil etc can be changed from time to time along with the usual sort of 'afloat' stuff...

The idea is to be ready for Bray CC's fitting out cruise, all we will need to do is clean and prepare the topsides and interior if my plans work out OK!

Then, another year terrorising the poor old boating community! :)

We have plans to take her up to Osney, down to St Kats and the Barrier, along with a few cruises with Bray and the usual weekend jaunts, and are both looking forward to meeting old friends!

Good luck with yours.

Ours comes out tomorrow. Dread to think what we will find as she has found the bottom of the Trent a few times!!!

Hopefully (fingers very crossed) there wont be much in the way of damage and we can just do a few repairs (hopefully none too serious), antifoul her, change the anodes, hull and superstructure polish, have the outdrive serviced, change a dodgy trim tab ram, change the filters on the engine (oil was done about 25 hours ago/3 months ago so wont bother) have a quick tidy up of any bits and bobs then get her relaunched in time for our first planned trip the week commencing 22nd March.

Well thats the plan, we shall see how it pans out i suppose.

I hope the BSC is being done this week and a quote for dealing with smoke. Haulout awaits post Easter when I have some leave, got to book the club slip and hope for dry weather to deal with antifouling and the topsides touchup and polish.

£400 quoted for a full Hull and Topsides polish!

I would prefer to pay for this to be done, due to the time involved.....

So far, so good!

Just to hijack again.

Ours came out on friday and no damage!!!

The gods have been looking down on us.

Made a good start on the work. Got her polished, first coat of antifoul applied, anodes changed and ropes and fenders strewn around the house drying after being washed!!

All being well, she will have the outdrive serviced this week, get waxed up, new trim tab ram fitted and final coat of antifoul and be ready for relaunch next week.

Total cost £3.60 we ran out of T-Cut

Time taken 1 day including first coat of antifoul, changing anodes and general scuff repairs and cleaning.

Save that £400 for something useful!!

T Cut!

OK, I hope you realise what you have just done...

Jaws, it was Ian who quoted £440, but agreed to £400 after a little light negotiation.

This would be for a rather more professional service, and two coats of Polish.

T Cut simply abrades a more-than-desirable layer of one's precious Gelcoat off, and if not polished a couple of times, will look worse than it did within a short space of time.

As No Regrets is a rather tidy 1981 Broom, she will not be suffering such violent abrasion until the first lock!

As a matter of interest, how much does your lift cost, approx will do. Thanks. How about before and after for professional polish.

Yes she needed T-Cut after G3 compound where a few scuffs had appeared!!

Dont know how you expect a polish without cutting the gelcoat. Thats all polishes do cut the surface. Cal will be treated to another "cut" with a finer polish before a good coat of carnuaba wax to finish off the job. The topsides where cut, polished and waxed last June and still hold their shine so it cant have done that much harm. They shall however have a quick run over with the autoglym whilst she is out.

The "professional" valet and polish she was treated to when we bought her lasted the whole of about a month before it had dropped again. Much prefer the polishing service the OH can muster at a fraction of the cost which holds it results for months, well so far 7 months and counting. You can keep your proffesionals and their extortinate costs, i shall spend the difference on beer and diesel i expect.

Not everything in life is gauged by it's cost.

For example, one could consider the cost savings of a decent car against a hideous pikey mobile like a Nissan Almera, for example, because the latter is cheaper, and appears to do the same job.

Luckily for me, I have not neglected my beloved vessel, and polish will suffice.

Also, by a stroke of luck, I can afford to have No Regrets professionally polished AND enjoy a vast skinful of Beer and a tankful or ten of Diesel...

Enjoy your now abused hull, I will laugh at it's late year disfigurement..... LOL

And i shall laugh whilst my Datsun is still motoring on and your "non hideous pikey mobile" is broken down on the hard shoulder, as well as when your moorings invoice , servicing invoice and valeting invoice drop on the door mat along wth the bank statement. Prefer to spend my cash on using the boat then lining others pockets to work on it.

Only ten tankfuls of diesel, you aint going far this year then. No wonder your 1981 caravan, sorry Broom, is still in "good nick".

My hull, well my boats hull, isnt abused, nor has it ever been abused or neglected. It has been polished and compunded to remove areas of limescale and crud that cant be washed off whilst the boat is in the water due to the hull shape.

Getting this

off without the aid of G3 compound and some 800 paper would have been nigh on impossible. If you know a way you could make yourself a tidy fortune. (The antifoul has been scuffed by ice at the waterline and by a sofa we mounted at the bottom. The poor effort of an excuse of antifouling on there in this photo was by a so called professional. Wouldnt pay the £500 they command for such a poor effort.)

Im not sure why you expect Cals hull to be disfigured later this season, but maybe we shall have to post some pics later in the year to see how she is faring. I expect she will be doing just fine. Keeping her well waxed up is the key.

Anyhow any pics of this 29 year old shining example as a comparison? Let us all see what your professionally kept boat looks like so we can spot the difference.

Forgot to add the pikey Datsun, or Nissan if you prefer, is the sensible run around and work car. The XR4i in the garage is our pefered toy.

I like the XR4i, I had one when I was 22.

Sadly it had to go when I bought three Porsches last year.... :)

We managed 200 hours last year on 140 Gallons, guess the old girl is made for the Upper thames!
