this is a beautiful hull, very sleek.....
I think is the anchor recess upsets the flowing lines.
if you want to bling up the anchor, get a ss one and shove it on a bow roller.....shiny anchors look great with matching windlass.
 
Huh? Actually, A.P. anchors hold very nicely, in my books - their only drawback being that they aren't convenient to handle, if you don't mind their ugly look.
In fact, in which of the above pics do you see an admiralty anchor?
Mind, it's true that pockets restrict the anchor choice, basically to Danforth or stockless, but fwiw I've never had any holding troubles with my stockless hooks.
 
Coming along nicely now Rob! Not sure if it's been mentioned already but will you be getting the boat painted by the same yard? Do they have a decent paint shed?

Looking at a 50kg kedge anchor from manson, in stainless. Certified high holding power apparently, by lloyds.

Still having a debate with the yard about choices etc, but think the removal of the original pocket, and just having a hawse pipe with the stock sat in will look good.
Were in agreement about the original pocket though...

The two halfs of the hull now meet in the middle... :)

Not sure what size the anchor on the Hardy 62 is but looks small and tidy under the bows.
 
bloody hell, at that rate petem maybe right and I should work allnighters to get MiToS in the drink first!

Re pockets, I agree that square shape looks cr4p, but easy to stretch to bow and get it perpendicular on the spray rail (If that's how you call it below) and it will look really nice. But would you have two as MM, or just one?

Hhaha, yes... I said before, its not the yard holding things up.
Anyway... Im struggling to find a small enough anchor anyway... 50kg is a bit excessive. 35kg is more than adequate. Trying to keep weight down, and that would be enough.
Trouble is it seems most kedge style stainless anchors are starting at 50kg up to several tonnes.... :nonchalance:
Ill keep searching.... My last resort is for a plough/rocna/claw over the bow. I would like to keep the little ship look with a more traditional anchor....

Not sure about the perpendicularity you're mentioning, though.
Wadduthink, wouldn't a simple plate extension like this look much nicer?

yep not sure myself MM on the perpedicular bit. The fact that the two spray rails sort of converge slightly towards the bow, messes up my idea.
Rob have a look at these two options as well. It's a two min pshop crappy job but you get the idea. I think all three are quite similar, if you do decide on a pocket you might as well sketch on the spot and make up your mind if you like it or not.
FWIW, I'd probably go for the ship look of the pocket ;)

Well, one thing i think we all agree on.... The original did not look right... I reckon a box of spray cans next week on the hull may help decide....
The juries out at the moment.... But, the above definitly fit in better than the original...

Another thing to consider are rust marks, every ship i've ever seen with an anchor pocket is covered with rust dripping down the side of the hull all over the topsides. All the mud muck and 5hite is going to end up all over your lovely white hull!

......on a bow roller the anchor is far enough out over the stem to drip directly into the sea and cause no rust staining on the hull.

just a thought.:)

LOL, otoh you've never seen a ship (or a superyacht, for that matter) with anything else than pocket anchors. There must be a reason.... :D

....they have crew equipped with tooth brushes to clean the anchor! [my sis was friendly with a chef on a supeyacht, and the crew spend 8 hours every day polishing the damn thing from top to bottom with toothbrushes];)
 
I don't even dare asking what other sorts of OCD that owner was suffering from.
Fwiw, all I do with my anchors is rinse them with fresh water upon return to the marina.
The white paint under the s/steel plates is now 7 years old, and shows no signs of rust whatsoever.
And they are just galvanized lumps of iron, not the posh s/steel stuff...
 
Rob, have a look at the pocket anchor arrangement on the new Sunseeker 155 - not saying it's better layout, but seems to 'fit' the overall design... Whether it would work aesthetically scaled down for 50~60' range is another matter as proportionally it would be bigger and thus more impact? :)

Edit: seems it did... At first look I thought it had an 'afterthought' feel about it, but does seem to fit, the more you look at it. I wonder if that's because there's no real angular/shape consistency throughout the hull - i.e. a mix of angles and curves?
