Fifty Feet of Grey (steel)

Ok, you got me on the build pics... :)

I decided i needed a break, so cleared off to the arctic, then got called back to work early.... So my appologies :)
Home soon.... So will be a more in depth report....
Before i go to Angola or possibly Nigeria...

Robin, the primer grey dutch barge in the photo almost floated off its blocks.... Another six inch of water and it would have gone...

Yours would probably have been a bit lighter if they'd have just done the hull and would have needed 6" less water - so would certainly have gone! Perhaps the delays were fortuitous? It would have been a curious Pan Pan description... :ambivalence:

if it's any consolation it's been pi55ing it down here in the south of France as well, lights on inside the house at lunch time.:ambivalence:

I will have some interior layouts to show you soon.
We have also designed in underwater exhaust systems, with expansion chambers. These were done originally with this design by PJ boats, using MTU engines (iirc) apparently the MTU arebuggers for backpressure, and they worked a treat...
So we have these going in.
Original was to use the D section rubbing strake to put the exhaust pipe, but that would not work, so we have gone for an internal expansion chamber.

The v drive gearboxes have given us a rake more space to play with, so I am really looking forward to see how we can utilise this best.

Were getting there. Well chuffed.... I reckon the hull will be done by the time i get home again, or fairly close. With the superstructure to start then....
We have to fit the superstructure cross bracing yet, nothing that far up is done yet...

Amazing for a few days - sea trials before the end of summer at this rate! Do you have a target date in mind yet and are you doing interior fit out there too?
 
Seriously impressed with the lightening holes in the frames!!!

Funnily enough all the small savings do add up.......:)
 
Indeed they do.... All the mouseholes for conduit, cables and services etc etc...
Speed of build is impressive. Bearing in mind this is pretty much one bloke, with his mate for the larger sections...

We also have the shear calcs for the stabs.. And the full spec for the thrusters.
Things are really starting to come together...

You can see we are up to the chine rail. So pretty much allthe structural stuff lower down is done. This has also been verified true with a theodolite.
Upper bulkhead frames and superstructure stiffeners in next...
