Fifty Feet of Grey (steel)

Now i have my paperwork in order, and have multiple interpretations.... The original prop calcs wont do...

Larger engines required for our estimates. No great setback at the moment, but it all adds up.
When we get nearer the point of no return, the load cells come out, and we weigh it before final decisions are made.
But for now, we are looking at QSC motors at 600hp
Hopefully, if we have overestimated weight, we can drop down to 550bhp.
Steel is been loaded on a trailer, for delivery 3jan


I feel at times, that i have flattened off one side of my head...
From banging it against a wall.....

Its a good job i have not got much hair left....
Bearing in mind, the hull should have been built by now....

Anyway.... Heres a superstructure under construction... Not mine.... But not far off. This you can see the new window profiles etc...

Still bouncing our way back out to work, after 8 hrs in peterhead.....

Well, its all ready to rock and roll.
Transport is booked. All loaded. Delivery is the 3rd of jan.

We have run through all figures with a couple of design houses.
With twin 600 engines, we can run 26 knots at 24tonnes, and over 28 knots light.
This should give us huge scope for fuel carrying ability, and the longer range that i was after.
More to the point, once we get our final weights etc, we have the decision if we can pull back to the 6.7litre 550 hp.
If we can build this at approx, 18 tonnes, we are doing very well for our targets.
Designer is off ill at the moment, so i have to leave him to rest, and wish him a speedy recovery

Anyway, we are all set for all systems go in january.

yeah yeah, and mine should be floating a year ago :p
I recon you're doing fine. Very curious to see how they actually start the welding of the puzzle. Which are the first two pieces and are put together and how you make sure that the whole thing is straight and level. I'm sure it will be just cannot figure out the method they use!

confused here as well, why is it all red? and why/how are windows covered?

The keel plate jig is built first. This is the starter and is fairly critical. From there the first keel plates are laid, pulled up and tacked. The dutch system does not use a keel bar, the whole hull is basically self alligning. It will all become apparent as we start and photos go up.

The red is primer, the sheets come from the steel mill in weld primer to protect them from corrosion. The steel is original on a reel. Once its flattened, its the cut to length, descaled, and grit blasted, then primed.


The windows are cut, but to give the rolling an even bend, the coupons are left in on tabs, to be cut out after, otherwise the rolling radius would alter if cut out first. (Less metal been rolled)
All will become apparent :D

so there's going to be rolling (single curvature) of some sheets done in situ?
I guess they don't do it in the factory in order to have less volume to ship, right?

No, thats there and done. Only thing left is to cut the windows out. There are small tabs (not cut) holding them in at the moment. The glazing that is being fitted is moulded to give the 1 big sheet of glass, glued in look...
 
Favoured supplier is Trend. I looked at lots of glazing at METS, trend wasnt the cheapest, but the hidden sliding windows work for me.
Discussing prices when i getthe cad drawings. The windows were good price, tooling cost were not so...
 
One week to go. Hopefully then the hard work starts.
Especially as Im home a couple of days later, but have lots of running around to do,
Suppliers to go and speak to, and find a place to rent in jersey. LIBS to go to, also need to go to Guernsey.
If the steels not here by then, ill be on the next flight to Amsterdam with a bit of a ****ty on....

Hans (the designer) is out the loop at the moment as not well.
So i have still questions and lots of blank spaces....
Blanks been in my head at the moment....
