Ferryboat Fambridge

Can't say I am local but our experience when we visited Fambridge last summer was very good both food and beer.

Oyster Smack is now an excellent Gastro Pub, recommended.

Spice Fusion good, and value.

For a drink, Queens Head is best beer in town.

Fambridge - seems a good idea for a Fri evening beer. Presumably I can tie up to the pontoon. It is either there of Pagglesham as I am planning leaving B'sea Fri morning and making a long weekend on the boat. Got to make the most of this enforced free time ;)

I think there will be a couple of us on the pontoons at Fambridge tomorrow night, keep an eye out for somebody making a complete hash of changing the headsails over!

If you fancy "posh nosh" after a long absence we recently had lunch at The Soul in Burnham, formally the Contented Sole & the food was excellent. Although more expensive than the Oyster Smack or Swallowtails which again in my experience are VG... I also like the take away fajitas or pizzas from Sergeant Peppers in Burnham

Whats it like there nowadays? -have not been in for years. And any current recommendations for Burnham?.......might make it this weekend

At Fambridge FBI about a month ago, beer fine but fish and chips distinctly average. Prices reasonable. If you want to visit Burnham without paying BYH fees, try calling RCYC, RBYC, Priors or Rice and Coles for a mooring - all offer good launch services with their moorings, if you don't want to use a tender.

For beer in Burnham, while I agree the Queens Head is the best in a pub, tou can do very well at the CYC, RBYC or RCYC as a guest off the water - just sign yourself in. the same clubs also offer good basic food at very reasonable prices. As far as I'm aware, the BSC don't offer draught beer, but do food on some particular occasions - check all four club websites for the latest.

Lastly, don't be put off the RB and RC clubs by the royal tag - they're both friendly clubs with members who love sailing and are more than happy to welcome a fellow sailor into their midst. Last time I hired a mooring from the RB for a couple of nights, the Commodore came out to fetch us ashore in their launch, albeit dressed for a formal dinner, as the launch man was on a break!

Has to be said that after going from reasonably good in the past to very very good indeed under the new management regime, the food at the Ferry Boat has been a little below par on our three most recent visits this "spring". Not bad, still reasonable and acceptable*, but nowhere near as good as it could have and has been. The beer remains top notch however and I do like the place! Hopefully the food issue is just a temporary glitch

* well, with the exception of a fairly poor Sunday roast a few weeks ago but that was down to a specific problem and words were had!
