Ferry Boat Inn , Felixstowe

Went there for lunch today 😳
Still no kitchen but landlady said she’s not too bothered as they can’t find a chef.
Had very lacklustre sandwiches.
The Adnams was nice - can’t compliment anything else though. 🥺

Everywhere seems to be suffering - quiet - maybe needs to get some mobile hot food vans to visit on a regular cycle - like some of the pubs in the countryside - Fish and Chips - Curry - Pizzas - Barbeque Van

Around 80 pubs a month closed last year according to the DT.

I think people are not ready to pay the ever increasing prices asked for what is all too often mediocre beer and generic freezer to fryer food. We used to have a pub lunch almost every time we went out for the day but now tend to take a picnic or grab a supermarket sandwich instead for exactly that reason.

Although we occasionally go to a pub for a meal out, usually with friends or family, what I miss is the simple food options that were usual in the ‘60s/70s before all this gastropub stuff. Often it was things like sausages, pies, stews and vegetables served from the bar counter, with no waiting involved. I have no idea if anything like this would be acceptable these days, but it would certainly appeal to me for visits other than special occasions. For the Felixstowe Ferry, I would have though that if they are going to offer anything at all to eat, it should come from a limited choice of simple food, even sandwiches, but make it really good enough to please customers.

I think they are giving up the lease. It might remain as a pub if others take it on. Either way in my view pubs are doomed. They have priced themselves out of the market. £4.50 - £5.00 for a pint is simply too much. We used to go to pubs a lot. Not now maybe twice a year
my local agent has informed me that the FBI, reopened 6 weeks ago, i hope its successful, for them

Called in there at lunchtime today and served a decent pint of Adnam's bitter and a half of cider for £7.60. They're doing food too, an excellent ham and chips and a decent and substantial fish and chips were about £16 each. The staff seemed to be at sixes and sevens, but I got the impression that most of them were perhaps new to the job, so that'll probably be sorted by next week. I'd definitely recommend.
