Fecamp or Dieppe

Going across next week so which one should I go to?

Both good in their way. Dieppe marina is a bit tiresome, with most berths occupied by residents, in the French manner. The town is pleasant and we have eaten well at Le Newhaven nearby. The castle museum and gallery is worth a visit too.

You won't want to be entering Fecamp at LW springs but it is more friendly. It is yonks since I went to the Benedictine museum but it is quite fun even if the drink isn't. If you get a chance, you shouldn't miss St Valery en Caux.

We were in Dieppe a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it. Lots of places to eat on the quayside, very good saturday market, showers are clean but a bit of a walk. Nice to walk around the old town. Chandlery is about a two mile walk and not brilliantly stocked I have to say. Bike hire from a shed near the marina office €8 a day

I suppose they still let you lock in. I don't suppose it is as much fun as it used to be, though maybe a bit cleaner, or maybe not. I have spared you the one with the dead cat floating by.

Dieppe is the nicer town, I think. Also easier to access. Fecamp can be a bit of a trap in onshore swell.

Dieppe is easier to access, but the marina gets a lot of waves from fishing boats maneuvring.
I find Fecamp the nicer place, better walks, cliffs more impressive. But it is no place to enter around LW, and with a bit of a swell I would not go in LW +/- 2-2.5. There is not a lot of depth to the W of pontoon C either, watch your sounder. (We draw 2.1m)

I found Fecamp lovely but take ear plugs as the road alongside the marina attracts the local lads on their mopeds into the wee hours. Apparently silencers are optional extras on French mopeds :disgust:

We were there when France won the football world cup 20 years ago. The town went mad, took to their cars and drove around all night horns blaring. Quite a night.

I’m afraid I don’t, I do recall it was on the D1, Rue De l’Ancienne Port and was quite a walk all the way past the port, dog leg left over he river and I think hang a riht. It’s a really innocuous place and frankly, not brilliantly stocked.

If I had to choose between those two, Dieppe every time.

Stopped in Fecamp twice - regretted it both times.
Rafted up 3 or 4 deep in a swell is not fun.

Dieppe has much more to commend it.
Plenty of places to eat/drink.

If you could arrive HW +/- 2, I would go to St Valery en Caux.
Pleasant little gem of a town half way between Fecamp and Dieppe.

Fecamp is first choice. But the stagieres in Dieppe can make the slog to the Capitainerie worthwhile.

We draw 1,2m and whilst a night arrival at Fecamp can be disconcerting and the water shallow never that bad.

Just added St Valery to the list. Worth the effort, but follow the channel carefully. Not everyone does!
