Just seen this book in my local chandlery and wondered if anyone had read/used it. The only problem I see is that only one or two will ever be used. Is it worth the money, or are the same passages covered in the pilot books.

Hadn't heard of this but after a bit of a Googlge I discovered that the Fearsome Passages covered are:

The Alderney Race
Bardsey Sound
Bristol Channel and the Severn
Caernarfon Bar
Carmel Head and the Skerries
Channel du Four
Chichester Bar
Northern Channel of the Sound of Jura
Jack Sound
Ramsey Sound and the Bishops
The Needles Channel
Mull of Kintyre to Mull of Galloway
Orford Bar
Portland Race
Raz de Sein
Strangford Lough Narrows
The Swellies.

I would have thought all these were adequately covered in the relevant pilot books, and certainly wouldn't buy it myself unless it was a rivetting read. I'm dubious anyway as there is no such thing as the Northern Channel of the Sound of Jura in normal cruisng parlance, although I assume he means, the Sound of Luing, Corryvreckan, Grey Dogs, Cuan Sound and the Dorus Mor. These are certainly all adequately covered in the CCC or Lawrence pilot you would buy anyway if cruising in this area.

Good to have on board

Might be a bit late replying to this, but yes I have it / and used it for West Wales (Jack Sound and Ramsey). You can find the info elsewhere, but it brings it all together nicely and succinctly and unlike many publications, will never really go out of date (rocks, races, tides and the like never change). So I'll have it on board for our foray into the English Channel, CI and N.France next year, and I expect I'll visit a number of the 'fearsome passages' over the years...so worth the money for me.
