I thought I would practice ShipsWoofy's guide to uploading images and hosting with ImageShack.

harbourpicturejpeg2tw.jpg

I think its a little small, any suggestions to make it bigger? I think I made it 600*400.

I also found out you can't load png. images.

Its much better larger size, in cm, how big dare I make the image size.

Hope you like the photo.

I expect its quiet now.

Still not sold the boat yet but Im going to make a massive effort to move the boat early spring. Ive still got my eyes on the Targa in Jersey.

The acutal picture you have posted is 216 x 144 pixels. Depends on how hosting on Image Shack works, it may have given you a thumbnail or some other version of the original you uploaded there. Is there an option to see the original size version?

Yes, it shows 7kb!!

I think it went wrong as i sent it as a png image. When I found this wouldnt work, I converted it to jpeg. It must have lost its size on the second conversion.

The software I use to make pictures smallet allows me to reduce the pixels and also the image size.

How big in cm should the picture be posted?

Best thing is to just experiment. Use the 'I want to preview my post' box when you are composing a post, and put image in, Then you can see what it looks like. If you don't like it, just use back button, and you don't have to post experiments on the forum. 500x300 pixels should give you a decent size piccie here.

It's not that easy though, as you could have a 500x300 pixel pic that was 5Gb, or 50kb - it depends on your skill at reducing the size without losing much resolution, and that varies depending on the content of the picture. Practice a bit, and it will make more sense. The smaller the better, as nothing is worse when on dial up than trying to download huge picture files, when they could have been reduced in resolution very easily

But you only have ONE small one /forums/images/icons/smile.gif. When I figure out how to post piccies (with Woofy's help) I'll show you palm trees and blue skies in December! Bit nippy outside at 7.20am - only 16C.

God gave many other countries good weather to try to compensate them for not being England, God knows what is sufficient compensation for having to live surrounded by Americans. . . . . /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I fully understand why, and you are not alone by any means, although Americans can't understand why someone would not want to live here. IMHO it all boils down to compromise: nowhere is perfect. This is the fourth country we have lived in and we could always find faults. We never intended to stay here, having initially come on a 3-yr assignment, but 18 years later with sons and grandkids out here, plus a lifestyle we enjoy, here we are. We still keep a place in the UK just in case/forums/images/icons/smile.gif and always enjoy our visits "home."
