As part of my preparations for winter sailing I have been increasing my body fat ratio in a controlled fashion. What preparations are you making and how advanced are they for the winter?

I've found this year's summer sailing to be ideal training for winter!

Took the wrong forntnight! You should have gone the fortnight before ... the fat was dripping from me then in the scorching heat .. and I've had to top up with crisps, beer, cooked breakfasts, spare ribs and pork crackling ever since.

I'm going to undertake a similar regime to the lady shot putters and hammer throwers. Question is - will I get ugly too?

Wait for it!!!

Magic

How much heel do you obtain by sitting out? As a very fat bugger I can steer just by moving from one side to the other.

I've been stocking up on the lard- the bilges are full of it now. I use it in the fashion of channel swimmers ie smeared liberally all over. It has lots of advantages over your subcutaneous lard method-

1) It's easily reversible in the spring- just wash off, no exercise involved.
2) It helps you get tight clothing on and off.
3) You can scrape a bit off and cook your breakfast in it.
4) You can use it as a universal lubricant!

You could also substitue beef dripping.

Make that a thick cut chip.

I'm actually trying to lose weight at the moment so that I can get more lard under my clothing.

We took the boat out at the beginning of November last year and missed some of the best days of the year. This year, it's staying in and we're hoping for some great winter sailing, including Chritmas and New Years Day. Hopefully this will avoid that feeling of terminal loss you can get at the end of a season. Will prbably try and come out for a month in March to do all the jobs.

Couldn't agree more. I was an 'innie' last winter, and had some of the best days boating of the year. I'm amazed at how quiet the waters are summer weekday evenings, as well as winter weekends

Me too .. I usually haul out for a fortnight in Feb cos that's usually when the crappiest weather is. Had some wonderful winter sails ....

Re: Amazing

Yes, why is it that no one out winter weekends needs continual radio checks? Must be that their radios aren't working! <g>

Dear Heart reckons I've lost a chin whilst being on the boat and has now come up with the theory that I do a lot of snacking whilst at work. Damn - found out at last!
Para reckons that exposed skin produces subcutaneous fat to counteract the cold and that all these pretty young things wandering around with bare midriffs are all going to turn to blobbies in due course.

Not that I look, of course, but many of the young ladies attired in this manner are already showing little bulging. Bit worried about me bonce now, must keep wearing the hat.
