So, who has the fastest boat out of everyone here?

Biggest engines etc.....

Or should I ask, who is the biggest looney out of all of us....?

Has anyone been on anything stupidly quick?

Our boat does 26 knots max, which is positively slow compared to a lot of boats, however, I do think doing 50 knots on a rib would scare the hell out of me... /forums/images/icons/smile.gif If anyone has been on something stupid, what was it like...?

When I ski raced 1 regularly hit 80mph (21ft Phantom) with a skier up, fastest that I have driven a boat is 105mph in a 21ft F1Connolly with 2, 2.5 EFI Mercury outboards, bit scary at first as everything happens that much quicker, have had the chance to ride in a F1 21ft inboard at speeds well in excess of 100 mph but due to back problems had to decline, one day may just go for it.

I suppose it’s the size 21ft that makes it more exhilarating your are that much closer to the water with very little length up front, all had foot throttles, that makes them a lot easier to control, extremely large trim tabs, we are talking around 2ft plus, bow and belly tanks to take on water to ballast the boat, a lot to adjust to suit the ever changing conditions when racing, all the time with a skier 200 ft behind and with other boats at close quarters.

Did I regret retiring you bet?

You may have known my brother-in-law, Steve Bond. He did offshore ski racing a few years ago with his daughter, Zoe. From what he tells me you're all mad/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I think Derek below has it in the bag for speed and lunacy! Mine does 45kts by the way. The following link has been done twice before - but for your benefit, I'll post it here again. I hope you have broadband - enjoy!

Jeeeezzz! I like quick boats, but quick on something big and solid. Over 100mph in a 21ft would scare the hell out of me.

Surly the sea is so unpredictable with other peoples wash etc, at that speed do you not run the risk of flipping or nose diving?

I bet the constant adjustments must be really hard work.

I watched 5 guys in the Southampton waters blatting along, they went past us doing 22 knots like we were not moving! Hit some wash and took off, the three guys in the back took off out of their seats as the boat went down and banged into the water, then they slammed into their seats. You would have thought this would stop them, but no, back on went the power and off they went for another back breaking experience.

Some of these Ribs really go well!

I had some fun with a Cougar built Cat with a client recently.
It had been purchased as a toy, no one knew how to set up the arnesons or had the bottle to trim it properly.
2x Lambo V12 turbos, I hate to say it but I bottled out at 120.
After a full day playing it took me a week to walk properly and the other after affects were far less enjoyable!
Total respect to Steve Curtis and his fellows, but not for me, for a while at least.

P.S. Female owner, not married foxy and lives in the med.....
If I was not happily married I would have been in heven, am happily married, was in hell;)

At the recent world ski racing championships in Long Beach (Los Angeles) one of the boats 21ft that pulled a lady was capable of 143mph, did have 2 engines both small blocks, to get the boat out of the hole with the skier they pumped compressed air out of both drives to lift the rear and let the props spin.

I do about 60mph in my 15 foot ocr boat in the sea.

its not ultimately how fast but i think its the conditions that make it exciting, doing 100 in these tea trays with V8 monsters on them on a flat lake like they do in the USA is nothing, hit 80 or so in bad chop thats exhilerating!!!( not as i read where somebody testing a performance boat mentioned choppy conditions at 60mph in a thirty foot boat, then going on to say 2 foot waves, i mean real chop!)

Gotcha Al!

The first sign of a weakening petrol head !!!!

I vote diesel within 12 months (esp. if you move it to Kip or somewhere like!).

I'm sure there'll be a R270 on order before the new seasons out.

Then you'll have a decision to make!

Most definitely not diesel, if you want speed petrol is the only option, have you ever seen a smelly diesel looking that good, they also have a pair of big blocks that go in, hits around 160 Mph
