Please any of you good chaps out there using a small FARYMANN diesel engine (inboard) in your sail boat. would be glad to have some of your vast knowledge on that inboard.
I had a Farymann FK2M 12hp in my last boat a Halcyon 27, it ran like a swiss watch and never missed a beat the whole time I owned her. It is basically a Kubota diesel engine which has been marinized by Farymann, mine was old but it just kept on going only needing a regular good service(as we all do), Like all engines if you look after it then it shouldn't let you down too often.

Hi Bajo,
I had one in my Shipman 28.
Owned the boat for 5 years. Diddn't exactly service the engine very much in that time except change the oil every season.
As mentioned in previous post, it ran like a sewing machine.
Only problem I ever had was the starter motor failed on first day into a 2 week holiday on the continent. The engine started very easily by hand, so had the starter motor repaired on our return to the UK.
Most new engines now you cannot start by hand.

I had a V-twin 35 horsepower diesel Faryman in a 36 ft Chinese Junk.
They are purpose built for salt water use
It was powerfull and reliable, the one shortcoming was that it vibrated terribly at very low speed but once sped up it was smooth as silk..............
I also had a Shipman with a Faryman one cylinder engine water cooled. The engine drove a hydraulic pump which in turn drove a hydraulic motor on the prop shaft.
The engine water jacket was fitted over the cylinder casing and sealed with o rings, being retained in position by the cylinder head. The water jacket was made of what appeared to be a resin and fibre based material. This might sound rather susceptable to damage in an overheating situation but this was not so as such an incident proved.
