Faro marina

Any visitors to Faro may find this of interest

Thanks for that & Greetings from Faro.
The Doca de Recreatio, to give it its proper name, is only used by local small boats. Most of which never seem to go anywhere.
Accessible only by tender if you are out in the anchorage. Towards the end of the video the building you see in front of the rib is the Club Naval. Always a warm welcome there from the old fishermen that us it.
BTW if its of interest to anyone, Bruce's Yard is around 8 euros per day for a 12M boat inc Lecky & Water. Bom Dia.

Hi Sandyman, you sound like you have frequented Faro quite a lot.

It is a small Marina however I used to berth an 8 meter boat in there and as now go out down the Ria Formosa to some very beautiful spots. I guess the main advantage is being in a sheltered area and not straight out into the sea, where you would have to anchor off one of the beaches and be buffeted around all day.

I have had my boat in Bruce's yard and can recommend him, however getting in there is a little precarious and you can easily get caught out.

Have been under that bridge in a rib and had to almost lay flat. Must be fun judging the tide to get those bigger ones out.

Yes its a great place. We've been here about 18 months in refit. Couldn't want for a better yard. We only draw 1.5M so getting up the channel was not difficult even at low water. Bruce & his team have build a dredger & a machine for dredging named Mud Lark & Mudosaurus. ( Bruce has a good sense of humour) They are in the process of dredging from buoy 21 to the yard to a depth of min 3M at LWS.
You can no longer access the lagoon on Culatra. They have put a large hawser across the entrance. Something to do with cleaning the place up. If you've ever seen the sea-pikeys that live in there you would understand why lol.

There has been talk of cleaning things up and restrictions on mooring in certain areas, mind you if you go down to Deserta the old buildings are showing up more and more and it looks a right mess!

There is a huge dug out area next to Bruces yard which i think is one day going to be a marina..
It would be an awesome place if it goes ahead.

It certainly would but afraid it aint going to happen. The authorities here won't allow a full marina but have apparently given permission for what they call a ''wet storage''. One reason for this could be there are plans afoot to build a super marina
along the lines of Villamoura in the area of the old docks.
