New build Bristol Channel style Pilot Cutter, around 50', set up for single handed sailing, fitted out with modern conveniences, fitted out for long distance sailing and remote locations, designed for comfort down below. A workshop forward, separate office space, saloon, owners suit, guest cabins, pilot house cabin top.

Why? I like the look that the pilot cutters evolved into, the design for short handed sailing, the turn of speed. As it is a fantasy, I would have the resources to keep the boat maintained in top condition.

Don’t get me wrong, the 28 is a fine boat. But 99% of them are trailed only to bring them home to the owners garden for winter. We have had a DF800 and a Corsair F27 with trailers. They are HUGE things to trail on UK roads, the 28 is going to be about 11m on the trailer. and of course 2.5m wide. Ours is trailable in theory. In practise, it’s hard to find public slipways with roads to them that can take the boat. Our 920 would not fit up the road our house is on, so we have the opposite problem.

Having fantasy staff to maintain your fantasy yacht has to be a part of the fantasy. Quite possibly a fantasy supply of antifoul and similar maintenance supplies too.

Funnily enough I was thinking about say Bezos on his fantasy yacht …….must be a real pain having a crew all stooging about and getting paid to go yachting at your expense and having to be on top of them to keep up the standards you expect or think you should have

I also have a liking of old Scottish fishing boats, motorboats. The wooden hull, canoe stern, small wheelhouse, no shelter deck. There are a few beautiful conversations still around, but usually with a large wheelhouse house added. I wouldn’t do that, I would keep the small wheelhouse, keep a big deck area, and have below converted for Luxuary living. Around 80’ LOA.

A converted Clyde Puffer would also be in my fleet, you can detect a trend here. My own island, my own harbour, a general maritime faffing about pad.
