Well we must have just been lucky over the years as we have been just fine.
One slight clashing of rails at Wells not when rafted up but when on the pontoon when a yacht sat back on her lines as the tide came in is all that we have too report. Easily sorted by resetting her lines and no damage done.
Unless of course you count the grounded yacht that bottomed out at Wells, sat on her keel, lifted the pontoon and several boats out of the water and then unceremoniously dumped us all back in the water when her cleat flew off
Chances are there is usually someone around to monitor any potential problems and rectify them before any damage is done. Its all part of the fun of boating.

Southwold is certainly nice we have visited several times in the past but we cheated and went by car(did not have a boat then)
Just going back to the subject of the rya day skipper course do you actually need to complete the theory part or does the practical tick all the boxes. A friend of mine has just done his practical in gibralter (highly recommended aparently) and he now has his cert of comp which I believe is what you need for cruising the med (the ultimate dream for me) please correct me if this is wrong.

Hi sailorman I'm sure that is very true. Long as I don't have to learn to many things the hard way.
We have certainly made some headway this summer especially as my wife had never sailed before. Well only the occasional dinghy sail with me but I'm glad to say she loves it so that's ok.
Do you know if you need the cert of comp to sail abroad?

We had a fantastic summer. Got to N Spain and back..
We got checked out by customs a few times but no one asked for a Certificate of any sort.

We also had a great Summer. Just came over from USA, now at Tide Mill. Definetively check the Deben, lovely anchorage at the Rocks or moorings Ramsholt. Tide Mill if you want to enjoy on-shore delights. But I would call on approach it can get busy around high water.
BTW no demands for qualfications at the Acores or the UK.
