Falmouth

Re: Padstow

No. It looks like we ran out. To be honest, it's getting so slow these days, I'm loosing interest. When we first did them I had 130 orders and sold loads every month. But over time it's just dwindled down and down. It's nowt to do with money, only do it as a service. But as Brendan has discovered with his meet up that had hundred going once. Now nearly no one. Is it the signs of a big resecion coming on. Or does nearly no one actually use there boats anymore. Maybe only me and you actually leave the marina berth for a week or two, horror, horror!!

Re: Flags

Just need a bit of an advertising campaign, lots of regulars telling newbies how they can meet lots of forumites if they fly the burgee this season.

That's what went wrong with Mercury meet. Not a lack of potential punters, just I didn't put in the effort to advertise better, and lots of people saying how great it was - people that came last two years just signed up with no bother, which was great from admim point of view, but there was not big threads or buzz about coming meeting. I'll try again later in year, but put on a big promotional campaign first, and get lots of peeps to post about it.

Yep.....only been in the West Country just over half my life...18 years in Deb'n....2 kids born Barnstaple....over 10 years Cornwall.
I'd rather be a emmet than a "haemorrhoid" though...(they come down when you don't want them to and they're a pain in the arse)

Well,I wont hold it against you /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif,I'll even share a beer or two with you if we meet
up over the season.

From reading the recent posts there seems to be a lack of meet up's. Although I
probably wouldnt travel the length of the country for a meeting, I'm sure it would be
fun to meet local forumites & those who come to our waters.
Perhaps we should get our flags from Haydn,& show our support, next time Haydn
& Deb's come down we could collect them in person!

All the best,Nige'

We may have even met already......I see your boat is Papillon and I have a raggy friend or two in (Guy, the Brummie off Lambi and Bob Murray off Shift) Falmouth marina and I know one of them is a great admirer of your boat. I will give you a shout if I see you on your boat....where exactly are you moored?
Also I saw a few weeks ago on here, that several Forumite mobo's are possibly heading this way in May so maybe if they shout when they are down here we can all rock up somewhere.

Fraid those names dont ring any bells, but,to be honest I talk to so many people that I meet down the river I've may well have met them!.We keep Papillon up at Malpas, only got her last year, so, praps your mates knew the previous owner.

On the river most weekends so bound to come across each other soon, look forward to it.

Small world, im up at Malpas as well on a swinging mooring, might meet you on the slip one day or might already have lol...who knows.....

After all this advice you must be looking forward to visiting Falmouth. The natives are friendly, if a bit weird at times.

IMHO the best restaurant in town is Hunky Dory (01326 212997) The owner/chef is South African and there is a young cheerful staff. It is in a converted sail loft almost opposite the exit from the Yacht Haven (booking at weekends advised). There are 28 pubs and many other restaurants, including a good fish and chip shop in the main street near the Yacht Haven.

The approaches to both Port Pendennis and the Yacht Haven are simple but night approaches can be tricky as the Nav Lights can be difficult for a stranger owing to the shore lighting.

For a boat of your size I would advise pre-booking your berth in either the Visitors Yacht Haven (01326 312285) (very central) charges as follows

BERTHING CHARGES Daily/Weekly

Boats over 14 metres and up to 16 metres LOA £29.00/£174.00

or in Port Pendennis (VHF Channel 80) (01326 211211) Web site: www.portpendennis.com (don't know the charges but more expensive).

If you are interestedI would be happy to meet you and conduct you on a tour of the National Maritime Museum, where I am a volunteer, near both marinas. (See the web site below). I will PM you with my 'phone number and email address for contact.

I'm hope that you will have a good trip.

Bob

I'm probably looking for a swinging mooring within the area covered by the Royal Cornwall launch, (whatever that area is), for a 23 ton, 47 foot retired lifeboat, can take the mud. From mid June or mid July for three or two months (depending), any good contacts?
Thanks

The "aircraft carrier" was in fact RFA Argus, a helicopter training ship. She works off the SouthWest coast in conjunction with the RNAS at Culdrose and Yeovilton.

She is Plymouth based but maintained under contract by A&P Falmouth who do the same thing for the RFA Wave Rider.

Both are here at the moment.

See my posting above for the Yacht Haven. The number given will also help you with a booking a visitors swinging mooring. These are all within the operating area of the RCYC launch but it doesn't like going on the mud.
