Good Morning All
I hope to find you all safe n well in these strange times. I have recently acquired a Corniche 31 and happy out with her but would love to find out about he list to port and how to correct it? If anybody has experience of this correcting and how to do it? Has anyone heard of why this anomaly seems typical to this boat? There is another one locally to me and she also has a similar list.
Thank you

weight distribution issue? Try moving batteries etc around. On my boat which is not the same as yours I have two fuel tanks of unequal size. The starboard fuel tank is 25% larger to cater for the genny and for safe keeping / redundancy there is no fuel balance pipe. When the port fuel tank is empty-ish and no genny fuel has been used then there is a 2 degree list to starboard........ IF the black water tank is empty too. 2 degree doesnt sound like much but over a 3.5m beam it's noticeable from behind with a ~2 inch drop but not on the boat. When both fuel tanks are full-ish then this disappears. I take it this must be because of the V in the hull being more submerged. Either way it makes no difference to performance or handling but a redistribution of batteries made good.

What layout it it ? Tri cabin for a guess 1990

Thank you for your kind replies and advice, Seastoke, Paul & Bruce
I will look for weight distribution this weekend now when down on her. Yes, at all times but have only been on her with tanks up to half full, only got her on March 5th! inter-country travel only lifted on 10th of this month
Im not sure what you mean tri-cabin. She is 1991 build, cabin forard, dinette midships changes to dbl berth and then sofa/convert dble berth up in saloon space over engine compartment. lower helm station to port over heads, roughly amidships. upper helm station midships.

Doubt that the boat has spent its entire life with list, something would have been done about it long before now.
Water tanks/ batteries etc will have been built midships from new, so no lists there.
Are the fuel tank gauges working properly. Fill up to confirm.. ?
Later additions such as blackwater holding tanks would also be built so as not the disturb balance.
So its weight that has been aquired later ?
After checking for location of visable stuff in lazerette / lockers/ cupboards would seriously check all the voids in boat for water especailly if boating has been standing. ie rainwater or condensation, leaking freshwater tank or pump.
The taste test will determine if salt or otherwise. :)If salt would be checking stern glands first.
Fortunately your boat was built when boat designers actually cared about maintenance and access to hull voids .
You will probably find lots of little hatches hidden away in cupboards and under stairs etc to inspect all sections of the hull. Some cubby holes may even have another inspection hatch lurking within.
Get out your torch, check from front bedroom back under lazerette galley/ shower room and even the bilge under the steering gear for accumulated water.
If the list is only present when moving suspect the trim tabs., when stationary stick your head over the back to confirm that one tab is not stuck dwon.

Corniche is cracking solid boat and very sea kindly. We have three on our moorings, all with 200 HP 41B enginesl on shafts.
If you need any info just ask.
This also is a 1991 boat , just bought back from Dover. It performed very well in some rather crummy weather.

My boat arrived on a lorry and when lifted off, the hoist driver commented it seemed rather heavy.
The bilges under the lazerette were full of rainwater we extracted about 30 buckets of water possibly about 50 Gallons or more.
What engines does your boat have, asking for specific reason.

There is a re powered Corniche around with a pair of 245hp and a bit of trim tab might solve the problem..Chine riding .

Guys
Many thanks for your kind sincere replies. Well, I feel that ye might be a bit right and ye certainly have given me food for thought.
We had our first real trip on her last weekend and we clocked up a nice 100nm over a 5 day period. We believe that it cost us around 148 litres at between 1400 and 2200 revs and an average speed of c. 7.5 kts and tbh, it was great, she is some machine and yes, we had Force 5-6 across Lough Derg with the wind blowing the full length so, some fine waves and troughs and she was as steady as a rock. So we are glad with our acquistion but need to learn more about her.
Yes, I believe that the fuel tanks and the 5 stop cocks on them could be a contributing factor as we filled both tanks and when we got back she was taking form the starboard tank and the port tank didnt change that much. im going to look into that this weekend
Yes, I think there might be a bit of water under the port engine, certainly none under the starboard one so Im going to get at that too.
One thing which has me bamboozeled (and previous owner couldnt tell me either) is where exactly are the batteries??? So i need to find them.....another job for this weekend
The something tank, yes, shes positioned aft but over centreline but she is empty or emptied when we get in.
So I appreciate your kind assistance and advice and apologise that i did not get back to you all, collectively or individually but I will at some point over next week or two.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, I work in the marine sector and very busy lately so a bit hard to keep all covered.
So thank you again, stay safe in these times and keep in touch

Do you have the owners manual? It describes the fuel system and how to set up to take fuel from both or either tank. I can take a pic of that page at the weekend and send it to you if needs be?
