Hi,

Am gonna have to finally sort the headlining in aft cabin of my Benny 325.

Any good sources for face off discs that anyone has found, a d how many do you reckon I need?

I know it's not what you asked but I found that face off discs can very easily eat into the fibreglass even at moderate speeds and pressures. I found a wire brush attachment on a drill (rather than a grinder) to work better.

Both are super messy though.

I too found the wire brush attachment for the electric drill the most effective. It removed enough rubbery glue to provide sufficient surface for the new liner to adhere. Handy having the business end of a vacuum cleaner in close proximity to minimise the mess! I also tried picking off the old glue piece by piece with the aid of a piece of rubber - effective but slow. Tried using a scraper - partly effective and slow. Tried using coarse sanding discs - took off fibreglass as well as the glue and was very dusty. The surface of my boat was only smooth in places - much of it retained the woven pattern of the lay up leaving lots of little spaces for bits of old glue to hide. It's not the most glamorous of jobs - good luck with your endeavours.

I used one face off disc from Hawke House and easily cleaned off a 2m by 2 m area and barely wore the surface off the disc.

I used Screwfix ones as well as Hawke House and they both work. Be sure to take everything off the boat and seal cupboards, lockers etc. The dust will still get in! And yes, use a proper mask. Good luck with a horrible job!
