If I remember correctly it's the only marina between Portland and Torquay, and closer to the motorway network than either of those, so that may have something to do with it.

Not sure about permanent berths but visitor rates are something like £6 per meter.

Sadly I haven’t yet visited the Exe by boat but the cruising companion say access and egress requires a foot bridge to be operated - which is by the adjacent bar out of normal hours

I visited for a night in mid May. Booking in wasn't easy as I referred to it as the basin rather than marina! They also have moorings outside the marina which causes me some confusion when i was trying to clarify where i wanted to go.The footbridge wasn't an issue to worry about, they lifted within minutes. At 40ft I was the biggest there by a foot but the hammerhead was fine. Don't recall the fee was excessive compared to other places such as Noss on Dart or Datrmouth marina. I quite liked Exmouth and would go back. Saying that I did a chug that day from the Bill, West Bay and Lyme Regis.

What I did find ridiculous was going to Teignmouth for lunch stop as they wanted to charge a full day's berth for an hour or 2. On that basis I had a nosey round but anchored outside for lunch!
