An advert has appeared on the noticeboard on Eel Pie Island for a 1930's ex-Naval Pinnacle looking for new home. 42' Carvel-built with a steadying sail. Must be moved by the end of the month. May suit Restoration Society. Tel: 07974 940210 or contact Trevor Bayliss on the island.

I rang the owner
He gave me some details
It was built in the mid 1930's
He has owed the boat for ten years and due to illness and a prolonged stay in hospital now owes about two thousand pounds in fees. He is unable to work on the boat.
The boat has been out for around seven years
The hull although good needs calking but mainly at the transom , the rear cabin has been vandalised. He also talked of the supports causing some hull distortion !!
The engine is a bmc pilot with a prm hydraulic box and has around a 1000 hours on it.

The location is MDL at Pentonhook who have given him until the end of the month, so add in the cost of transport and cranage some one would need three thousand .
Craft of this type are fast disappearing which is a shame . He is hopeful even at this late stage that some one will save it from the saw.

Cheers
Mick

Dear Forbsie,

That will be the wind-up radio man then? I knew two people who had ex naval pinnaces, wonderfully built of quality timber and full of classic charm, but narrow gutted and prone to roll a lot.

By the way, thanks for you help with the Lloyds thing. I rather suspect a misprint as you suggest. easily done both 1 and 4 are linear carving. I'll check it out in Falmouth where I'm told the libaray has a full archive set.

Regards,

Will
