Evolution autopilot firmware update

Hello folks.

Has anyone updated the firmware on their Raymarine Evolution autopilot - was it a noticeable improvement?

Hoping an update would solve the hyperactive nature of my boat's autopilot (seems hyperactive to me - could be just normal I guess).

Would need to get round the problem of not having a Raymarine MFD/buy one, so reluctant to start down this road if it won't make much difference.

Many TIA

Would also be interested in this, for me to update local chandler’s has MFD that they will bring on board, plug into to network and update each, cost about £50, not having any issues but dies it offer any new options

The obvious question would be have you checked the responsiveness level setting: if not, dial it down to the “leisure” setting which should also save a bit of power.

I don’t have the latest 2022 update but then I don’t have the acu 300. I didn’t notice any big differences in previous updates but then these will depend on your set up (e.g. I have a rudder reference unit so wouldn’t have benefitted so much from the last big update). What they’ve changed in each update is in the release notes (near the bottom here), so compare against what you have now and see whether you think it’s worth it.

Cheers people.

Am on the leisure setting.

Release notes do look hopeful.

If I could get local yard to do the upgrade for £50 or so would be happy. Got a lot easier on coming ashore from swinging mooring the other day (just realised!).

One problem is with the speed input as the paddlewheel log is either drastically under-reading or not reading at all (will have a look at over the winter). Believe a GPS speed can be used as backup, but I think I’d need a SeatalkNG adapter cable to interface my Garmin plotter.

Will try and remember to post results when next afloat.....
