HI,
I have a 50hp evinrude fitted to my boat, its twin cylinder and is metalic blue..can,t get any numbers cos its on the moring 70miles away. The unit runs a treat but is a little too lumpy on tickover and i was wondering whether the thermostat was stuck open,it pumps water out of the telltale ie a jet out the bottom of the engine cover all the time even on start up.
Is this normal???
Can i fit new stat with unit on boat (drying mooring).
Has it actually got a stat??.
Your help suggestions would be most welcome as got engine second hand,Has same cover as formuler 2 powerboats.

Regards,
T.B.

The Tell Tail on my old evinrude 25 HP used to run constantly as well, I think this is normal so that you know if there is a problem well before it overheats. I dont know if it would actually have a thermostat.

The tick over on mine was always rough as well even straight after a full service.

The telltale will always put out a jet ,,, If it does'nt ,,then,, your are in trouble, waterpump wise ,, I have had 3 of these engines, and they all ran rough on tickover, and every other one I have seen is the same. the thermostat , I have found is nearly always removed in older engines. It is under the plate with the smaller bolts, on the head. You will need a new gasket if you remove it. Be warned that these bolts tend to seize in the head and you may snap them. Unless you think that the engine is overheating you might be best to leave well alone

Tis meself, so it is.
